The Director of Engineering & Professional Services is a dual-role leadership position that combines the strategic, managerial responsibilities of an Engineering Director with the technical expertise and licensure requirements of a Professional Engineer. This role oversees internal engineering teams, vendor relationships, and project execution while also providing direct engineering oversight, technical validation, and compliance assurance across large-scale telecommunications and electrical infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate is both a leader and practitioner—capable of directing multi-disciplinary teams while maintaining professional engineering accountability for design, compliance, and safety. Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management · Build, mentor, and oversee an internal team of engineers, drafters, and coordinators to deliver high-quality engineering services. · Identify, hire, train, and supervise technical talent while fostering a safety-minded and performance-driven culture. · Manage budgets, P&L statements, and capital expenditures for the engineering department; drive cost-effective solutions. · Lead business development efforts by identifying new engineering service opportunities for existing and prospective clients. Professional Engineering Oversight · Provide seal and signature on engineering deliverables where licensed, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and quality. · Maintain Certificates of Authorization for states in which engineering services are offered. · Conduct technical review and validation of deliverables produced internally and by third-party engineering firms. · Ensure all work complies with NEC, IEEE, NFPA, FCC, and state/local telecom and electrical regulations. Telecommunications & Broadband Infrastructure · Oversee design and coordination of fiber optic, small cell, DAS, and structured cabling systems for commercial and municipal projects. · Validate structural analysis and modification design drawings for telecom assets, ensuring compliance with client scope and safety requirements. · Collaborate with construction, RF engineering, and field crews to optimize project execution and installation. · Provide network readiness technical assessments and respond to RFPs. Electrical Engineering & Emerging Technologies · Design and oversee power distribution systems, grounding, lighting, and surge protection in compliance with NEC and safety codes. · Support development of EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy integration, and smart grid technologies. · Perform load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and power quality assessments for infrastructure projects. Project Execution & Compliance · Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and structural analyses for telecom and electrical projects. · Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates. · Ensure projects meet schedule, KPI, and budget requirements through active oversight and coordination with contractors, utilities, and government agencies. · Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Qualifications · Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field required; Master's degree preferred. · 10+ years of engineering leadership experience, including managing teams of engineers and technical staff. · 5+ years of telecommunications industry experience preferred. · Active Professional Engineer (PE) license with ability/willingness to hold licensure in multiple states. *Required to hold State of New York PE license. · Demonstrated expertise with NEC, IEEE, NFPA, and telecom regulations. · Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SKM Power Tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and project management tools (Visio, MS Project, Smartsheet). · Proven success managing multi-million-dollar infrastructure projects with strong P&L accountability. · Excellent communication, negotiation, and client management skills. · PMP certification preferred.
