Plant Engineer I
The Engineer I performs a variety of maintenance and engineering duties for the facility Engineering Department. The Engineer I reports and receives direction from the Plant Engineer and designee.
The incumbent is guided by experience and knowledge of HVAC plant operations including, but not limited to a strong basic knowledge in the operation of utilities and power plant equipment, chillers, pumps, steam systems, and those skills to recognize issues and able to maintain these systems.
Work Performed:
- Performs a variety of duties in maintaining and repairing plant and facilities utility systems.
- Assists in making decisions on all normal and minor repairs and reports problems to the Plant Manager or designee.
- Ability to read blueprints, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings.
- Operates chillers, pumps, air handling units, package units, exhaust systems, water treatment systems, cooling towers, compressors, medical gas systems, fire alarms, fire suppression and detection systems, and emergency generators to ensure the reliability of systems, facility comfort, and safety of staff and guests.
- Performs necessary preventive maintenance on facility equipment as assigned by Plant Manager or designee.
- Cleans, lubricates, services, repairs, installs, and diagnoses malfunctions of HVAC equipment, refrigeration and ice makers, basic electrical systems, and other utilities found throughout the campus properties.
- Strong ability to identify system issues and troubleshoot problems to restore to proper operation.
- Can work alone to solve basic utility problems.
- Be able to operate Building Management Systems to monitor and control HVAC systems.
- Responds to HVAC issues throughout the facility to ensure an overall comfortable environment.
- Maintains shops, mechanical spaces, and engineering spaces for overall safety and cleanliness.
- Maintains daily logs, performs daily rounds, and completes corrective and preventive maintenance work orders and inspections as assigned by Plant Manager or designee.
- Performs a variety of building service duties including, but not limited to:
- Respond to emergency issues in the facility and makes emergency repairs as needed.
- Responds to fire alarms, to assist Security, and acts as needed within a healthcare setting.
- Works with service contractors to grant access to mechanical spaces and ensure safe working practices.
- Works with construction services to coordinate the issuing of fire suppression and detection permits for equipment settings.
- Walks across campus as required to other properties.
- Effectively communicates with all levels of the organization and guests.
Schedule Requirements:
- Maybe required to work a variety of shifts/schedules.
- Available to work overtime as needed. Primary position.
- Available for emergency calls or open shifts.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Has minimum of Two (2) years plant operations and maintenance. Healthcare setting a plus.
- Current NYC Refrigeration System Operation Certificate of Qualification (Q 01)
- Must have or obtain S-12, S-13, S-95, P-98, A-35, and G-71.
- All Licenses and certifications required by city, state, and governing agencies. Current and future must obtain and be maintained.
