We are seeking an Engineer I/II, Systems to join our multi‑disciplinary Instrument Development team. You will support prototype builds of the ARGO instrument, perform root‑cause analysis on hardware and system issues, and help drive the reliability of our next‑generation proteomics platform. This position offers broad exposure to mechanical, electrical, firmware, and assay development in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment.

Primary Responsibilities include:

• Support prototype and pilot manufacturing builds of the ARGO instrument; capture build feedback and drive module/system improvements.
• Perform root‑cause analysis on component and system‑level failures; author clear, data‑driven RCA reports.
• Identify and implement preventive actions that eliminate recurrence of observed failures.
• Develop, document, and run automated scripts (C#, Python) to assess hardware repeatability and overall system performance.
• Plan and execute verification and exploratory testing of hardware fixes, software/firmware releases, and new features.
• Set up, execute, and capture data for R&D experiments; analyze and clearly present results.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and assay teams to track and resolve system‑integration issues.
• Calibrate, maintain, and repair the ARGO gantry subsystem.
• Assist in gathering and documenting user needs and system requirements; maintain requirement traceability.
• Build and debug engineering prototypes; collect data, analyze results, and propose design refinements.
• Draft test cases, execute verification protocols, log defects, track to closure, and summarize findings for design reviews.

Requirements include:

• B.S. or M.S. in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 2 + years of hands‑on experience (industry, internships, or graduate research) with electromechanical or automated laboratory instrumentation.
• Programming proficiency in at least one modern language such as Python or C# for data acquisition, automation, or analysis.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD design software (SolidWorks preferred) for fixture or prototype design.
• Experience with liquid‑handling robots or other automated laboratory systems.
• Working knowledge of electromechanical test design and fixture development.
• Experience integrating mechanical, electrical, and software elements of complex systems.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Self‑motivated team player with a positive “can‑do” attitude able to deliver results on multiple projects in a fast‑paced, agile environment.
• Able to come onsite to our office in South Fremont daily

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with motion control, gantry calibration, or vision alignment systems.
• Familiarity with ISO 13485 design controls, risk management (ISO 14971), or comparable regulated product‑development processes.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $140,000 - $160,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The ranges displayed on each job posting reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries but are subject to change if the leveling of the role is adjusted.
