Position

Triumph Engine Control Systems' Electronics Engineering department is looking to fill a position for a FPGA/PLD Electronics Design Engineer in our West Hartford, CT location.

Our Design Engineers develop custom solutions for various Electronic Engine Control applications, including actuator controls, motor controls, sensor interfacing, fuel regulation, digital communication, programmable logic design, and input power conditioning.

The ideal candidate should have strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, be comfortable communicating with customers, be self-motivated, and possess good interpersonal skills.

Required experience includes designing Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC), Programmable Logic Devices (PLD), Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), and other Complex Electronic Hardware (CEH). Knowledge of RTCA DO-254 Standard for Airborne Electronic Systems is recommended.

The candidate must be proficient with CAD tools such as Mentor Graphics-DxDesigner, PADS, Hyperlinx, etc., and capable of generating documentation related to requirements, design, validation, and plans. Experience with lab equipment like meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and data acquisition systems is also necessary.

The role involves interaction with engineers across multiple disciplines within Triumph, including Electrical, Systems, Software, Mechanical & Packaging, Project and Program Management, as well as external compliance officers like DERs or ODAs.

Responsibilities

The FPGA/PLD Electronics Design Engineer will execute technical tasks while meeting cost and schedule objectives. Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to plan and execute projects.
  • Ensuring teams have the requirements, direction, and resources needed to deliver products.
  • Estimating task durations realistically to meet deliverables.
  • Developing requirements, allocations, and compliance assessments.
  • Creating block diagrams for PLD/FPGA and digital design concepts.
  • Preparing for and conducting audits and design reviews.
  • Performing analyses and simulations on digital and analog interfaces.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal processes like NPI, Standard Work, and Design Reviews.
  • Meeting or exceeding DFx, Design-To-Cost, and Design-To-Weight targets.
  • Supporting customer meetings and design assurance activities.
  • Assisting in transitioning programs from development to production.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum requirements include:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering; MSEE preferred.
    • Over 3 years of FPGA/PLD design experience, preferably in aerospace.
    • Focus on FPGA/PLD digital circuit design with analog interfacing knowledge.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

    Desired skills include modeling and simulation tools, CAD tools, analysis tools, documentation tools, and programming skills, as well as schedule tracking and internet tools.
