Real-Time Energy Trader / Power Trader - Renewables & Battery Storage

Locations: HYBRID (Houston, TX Area) - Relocation Assistance Available

This is an opportunity to join an industry-leading renewable energy venture with strong private equity backing, focused on developing, executing, and operating utility-scale energy storage projects. The company has accumulated over 9GW+ of projects nationwide, including a fleet of grid-connected standalone battery storage assets.

This is a business-critical role within a growing Asset Management Division, initially focusing on ERCOT Market renewable energy and battery storage real-time trading transactions. The scope will expand to evaluating the company's portfolio across all ISO/RTO markets in the United States.It will be part of a creative team focused on energy storage trading strategies and real-time energy pricing. The incumbent will help develop and utilize a proprietary battery storage management platform for utility-scale projects.They are committed to expanding renewable infrastructure and offer competitive compensation, including base salary, PTO, flexible hours, 401K match, health benefits, and a transparent leadership team.Responsibilities:
  • Execute real-time power market strategies to optimize utility-scale battery assets across ISO/RTOs nationwide.
  • Drive virtual, PTP, hedging, and co-optimization trading strategies for the portfolio.
  • Support analysis and development of back-testing models, product valuations, project finance, and risk analysis.
  • Advise Scheduling Coordinators on market changes impacting asset performance, including outage coordination, dispatch, and capacity transactions.
  • Execute bids in real-time, day-ahead, and ancillary markets, including virtual and physical power transactions.
  • Serve as SME on US Power Market trends and maintain market registrations across multiple ISO/RTOs.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in utility-scale renewables or power markets, with a focus on market conditions and arbitrage opportunities.
  • Proven success in power trading, including portfolio optimization and managing physical/virtual trading across various energy platforms.
  • Experience with scheduling/trading applications such as NERC Tagging/E-tags, ISO portals, and SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of real-time trading, derivatives, power marketing, and transmission operations, including NERC, FERC compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills in market pricing, hedging, transaction structuring, and risk management.
  • Understanding of US energy markets (PJM, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, CAISO) and renewable portfolios.
