Summary We are currently seeking a bright, motivated individual to join our organization as an Energy Solutions Engineer (SE) in Boston, MA. The SE will primarily be responsible for providing technical support to the sales process, driving new district energy solutions for target customers. The ideal candidate will work hand-in-hand with Vicinity's Account Executives and Account Managers to support the development of compelling business proposals to close new business and accelerate our sales cycle. This individual not only needs to be technical, but a true team player with an ability to engage with the internal team in an effective and efficient manager. The SE will play an important and critical role in helping Vicinity to achieve our growth targets by differentiating us from alternative solutions. In addition, while technical acumen is essential, the SE must also possess a commercial mindset and understand how technical details influence and often make the ultimate sales. Finally, this position must have a demonstrated interest or background in the development and delivery of energy and utility solutions for diverse customers (residential, commercial, medical, institutional, government, etc.). The role will report directly to the Director, Business Development & Account Management. This is a full-time exempt position. Responsibilities
- Build engineering assessments, analyses and reports for new business and renewal projects, a key part in supporting the successful management and growth of our district energy business.
- Develop technical specifications (surveying sites, engaging with operations and engineers, reviewing specifications and cost estimates, etc.) for projects.
- Provide strategic recommendations and options to the team and will develop these recommendations into customized solutions to meet our customer's complex energy objectives.
- Support the regional on-pipe and off-pipe sales team by surveying prospect systems and designing Vicinity solutions.
- Perform walk-throughs of prospect's existing utility systems, and conduct technical, regulatory or financial feasibility analysis to onboard them.
- Develop sketches, written scopes, schedules, and reports common with project management and engineering work.
- Gather and analyze prospects' historical utilities consumption data and build load profiles.
- Oversee engineering services contractors.
- Respond to customer inquiries in a manner that exceeds the customer's expectations.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Energy Engineering or a related discipline (industrial, utilities, or HVAC) required.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience working in an engineering capacity.
- Experience in conducting engineering studies at energy service companies or engineering consultancy.
- Knowledge of energy needs, systems, and equipment for institutional and commercial facilities.
- Strong mathematical background.
- Command of the Microsoft Office suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the construction process of a central utility plant is highly desired (budgeted, estimated, designed, built, commissioned, etc.).
- Experience in managing energy performance for a central utility plant at institutional facilities.
- Strong customer-facing skills.
Physical Requirements
- Must submit to a company provided physical and drug screening as part of pre-employment screening process.
- Occasional travel required to support other regions up to 25% of the time.
- Standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, walking on uneven surfaces, and grating.
- Exposed to temperature extremes, high noise level areas, high pressure steam lines, rotating equipment, and dusty/dirty environment.
- Required to wear PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection.
