Energy Engineer

Responsibilities:

· Lead and perform ASHRAE Level I and II energy audits, Local Law 87 energy audits (LL87), and retro-commissioning studies.

· Support the analysis and development of GHG emission calculations (LL97), climate action plans, and decarbonization roadmaps.

· Conduct energy site assessment/evaluations of building systems to identify energy conservation measures (ECMs) and decarbonization measures (DCMs).

· Develop building and/or campus energy models utilizing energy modeling software and/or Excel calculations.

· Create building-wide energy and GHG emissions reduction plans by conducting analyses of utility, energy, and building systems using energy modeling software or Excel analytical tools.

· Utilize energy engineering experience to generate ideas and analytical tools for ECMs/DCMs.

· Evaluate feasibility, energy savings, identify rebate programs, and conduct financial analyses for identified measures.

· Test and retro-commission building systems to ensure compliance with NYC Local Laws (e.g., LL87).

· Write and/or draft energy efficiency reports including ASHRAE Level I and II audit reports, LL87 compliance reports. Assist in the development of climate action plans and decarbonization roadmap reports.

· Communicate findings and support meetings with clients and key stakeholders, such as management companies, building owners, and building staff.

· Oversee and train interns and or/entry level energy engineers in conducting energy analyses and on-site data collection.

· Assist lead engineers on multiple, ongoing energy related projects.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field or equivalent building energy science degree.

· Between 2-5 years of experience in the energy sector, including experience with NYC Local Laws 85, 87, and 97.

· Understanding of energy efficiency concepts, building energy science, HVAC systems, and energy resources.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with significant expertise in Excel.

· Experience (beginner to intermediate) with modeling software programs such as DesignBuilder (preferred), eQuest, or TRACE 3D Plus, as well as developing Excel energy calculations.

· Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience with retro-commissioning of building systems and equipment.

· Experience with energy modeling programs (DesingBuilder preferred).

· Understanding of the energy modeling process.

· Familiarity with ASHRAE 90.1 standard.

· Completed or pursuing Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or equivalent/related certification.
