Catawba County Emergency Services is seeking a dynamic and experienced EMS leader to manage its Emergency Medical Services Division. This is your opportunity to shape the future of EMS in a county known for innovation, collaboration, and service excellence.
Reporting directly to the Emergency Services Director, the EMS Manager oversees day-to-day operations and long-term planning for a large, high-performing EMS division. The ideal candidate brings a strong EMS background, a proven ability to manage people and performance, and a passion for serving the community.

- Oversee the daily operations and long-term planning of the EMS Division
- Supervise and coordinate EMS personnel, ensuring performance, development, and readiness
- Develop and manage the EMS budget, equipment, and fleet needs, and special projects
- Collaborate with local medical authorities, fire, and law enforcement agencies to deliver integrated emergency response services
- Investigate and respond to citizen concerns
- Serve on local, state, and regional EMS advisory councils
- Respond as a Paramedic or Supervisor to emergency calls as needed
- Participate in community outreach, public education, and special events
- Rotate on-call responsibilities for after-hours and on weekends
- Bachelor's degree in Emergency Medical Services or a related field, and 4 years of experience as a Manager, Assistant Manager, or other advanced leadership role within EMS; OR
- Associate's degree in Emergency Medical Services or a related field (with a commitment to obtain a Bachelor's degree), and 6 years of experience as a Manager, Assistant Manager, or other advanced leadership role within EMS
- A valid NC driver's license with a safe driving record (Driving is an essential function of this position)
- Certification by the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services as a Paramedic
- UNC Charlotte EMS Management Credentials or equivalent (or ability to obtain within 2 years)
- NC Hazardous Materials Awareness Credentials
- NIMS Incident Command 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 training
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Proven success managing performance across large teams or departments
- Deep understanding of EMS operations, equipment, and compliance requirements
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with partners and staff
- Strategic thinker with strong budgeting and operational planning skills
- Working conditions are inside/outside, and candidates must be able to lift 250 pounds with one assistant.
- Due to the nature of the position, it is requiredthat the Emergency Medical Services Manager live within Catawba County.
