Job Title: EMS Driver Department: Emergency Medical Services Location: St. Lawrence Health Systems Hours Per Week: Per Diem (as needed) Schedule: Variable shift/days, weekends, and holidays; 12 hour shifts SUMMARY: The ambulance operator is responsible to provide high quality emergency transportation to sick and injured patients. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responds to calls when dispatchedInspects the ambulance before each shift, including fuel, oil, transmission fluid, wiper fluid, and coolant; reports any needed repairsChecks first aid and medical supply inventory levels before each shift and ensures the ambulance is well-stockedAssists patients onto gurneys and loads them into and out of the ambulanceKeeps the inside and outside of the ambulance cleanSanitizes the ambulance and safely disposes of medical waste and soiled linensAdministers first aid such as bandaging, splinting, and oxygen administrationMaintains a driving log with daily entries, including patients' names and addresses, travel times, mileage, and services performedReports accident facts to medical personnel and police officers, when necessaryPhysical Requirements: Able to stand, lift, and bend for extended periods of timeStooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and pushing up to 50 poundsClose visual acuity; able to read manuals and other printed or handwritten materialsAble to work with and manipulate equipment settings, computer keyboard, etc.Ability to work well under pressureAbility to read a map and follow directionsEnvironmental Requirements: OSHA Category II: Some risk of exposure to blood/body fluids during daily job dutiesRegular and on-time attendanceWork hours may regularly exceed 40 hours per weekMay be required to work non-standard shifts (weekends, evenings, swing shifts, or combinations)Occasional travel by conventional means to other locations as neededREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GEDAHA BLSNYS Driver's LicensePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum two years' driving an ambulanceEDUCATION:LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements.
