Job Description :
The Employee Health and Wellness Nurse plays a vital role in supporting the health, safety, and readiness of the hospital workforce while advancing wellness initiatives that benefit both associates and the broader community. This position has an expected work task distribution of 50% Employee Health and 50% Associate and Community Wellness. The nurse delivers a full spectrum of occupational health services, including pre-employment and annual screenings, immunization management, injury triage, exposure follow-up, and return-to-work coordination. They ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (OSHA, NYSDOH), maintain accurate and confidential health records, and implement policies that promote a safe and healthy work environment. Additionally, the nurse manages aspects of the ADA/ADAA accommodation process, including medical leave follow-up, workplace restriction evaluations, and accommodation facilitation in collaboration with Human Resources. In support of wellness efforts, the nurse will play a pivotal role in implementing and overseeing organizational health and wellness programs that promote healthy behaviors and prevent disease both in JMH facilities and our community, leads the Wellness Committee, plans quarterly wellness events, and partners with interdisciplinary teams to promote health education and engagement. All services are delivered with professionalism, sound clinical judgment, and respect for privacy and organizational values.Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct pre-employment and annual health screenings for staff, students, volunteers, and contractors.
  • Administer and track immunizations; review labs and refer as needed.
  • Oversee return-to-work and accommodation processes in coordination with HR.
  • Manage workplace injury/exposure reporting and Workers' Compensation claims.
  • Maintain health records in compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and NYSDOH standards.
  • Lead employee and community wellness initiatives, educational campaigns, and data reporting.
  • Participate in policy development, internal audits, and emergency preparedness.
  • Collaborate with Infection Control, Environment of Care, HR, and wellness committees.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Strong clinical judgment with experience in occupational health or employee wellness.
  • Knowledge of ADA, FMLA, OSHA, and NYS health regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and data management skills.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in New York State. Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN or COHN-S) preferred, or willingness to obtain within two years of hire. Current BLS certification.EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience required; prior experience in employee health, occupational health, or public health strongly preferred. Experience with ADA/ADAA processes, workers' compensation, and infection control coordination is highly desirable. Experience planning and implementing wellness initiatives or community health programs is a plus.CONTACTS: Frequent contact with hospital employees across all departments, affiliated providers, contract personnel, and medical staff. Regular interaction with Human Resources, infection prevention, community members, and external public health agencies or vendors involved in employee and community wellness initiatives.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the hospital and affiliated facilities. May involve assisting with employee screenings, administering immunizations, and setting up wellness events. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a clinical and office environment within the hospital.
