Don't miss this opportunity, apply now!This position performs skilled technical work in coordinating and providing systems planning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the County's radio communications systems and infrastructure (7/800 MHz, NC VIPER, VHF, and UHF) and other Emergency Communications and Emergency Management (collectively referred to as EOC) systems and equipment. This position is also responsible for coordinating EOC warehouse operations as well as inspection/maintenance/repair coordination for department-critical facilities, vehicles, trailers, and equipment. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Emergency Management Director. Essential Functions Managing and ensuring optimization of the County's public safety radio systems and serving as the point of contact for assignment, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting;Developing and coordinating repairs and preventative maintenance for all supported equipment, including but not limited to, portable and mobile two-way radios, VHF, UHF, 800 MHz base stations and repeaters, digital microwave systems, and mobile data systems;Managing and ensuring optimization of the department's systems technology (EOC applications, equipment, system permissions, etc.);Maintaining equipment database for County-owned hardware and associated licenses and tracking County-owned equipment as it is ordered, stored, assigned, installed, upgraded, relocated, and disposed of (i.e., surplus);Performing some technical troubleshooting and coordinating significant repairs and installations with outside vendors;Coordinating and interfacing with radio system managing entities, vendors, local lead agencies, and others;Providing support for EOC specialized software applications, systems, and hardware and serving as the Recovery Point-of-Contact (RPOC) for both departments;Working with EOC, County, and local partners to ensure supported systems are meeting their needs;Providing technology and logistical support for Emergency Management, including emergency scene response as requested by the Emergency Management Director or their designee;In the event of an emergency, as determined by the Emergency Management Director or their designee, participating in preparedness and response operations in which the employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours, and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency; Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training;Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Preferred applicants will possess a combination of education and experience that provides them with the knowledge, skill, and ability to successfully perform the work will be considered. This includes: Demonstrated experience with public safety two-way radio programming and maintenance preferred.Associates degree, vocational training program with coursework in Electronics or equivalent Military Electronics training involving communications equipment, analog/digital circuitry, and test equipment usage. The ideal candidate will have at least three (3) years of hands-on experience in two-way public safety radio maintenance and two (2) years of experience using a trunked radio system. Experience with P25 systems and Motorola subscriber equipment is desired. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities General knowledge of departmental programs, policies, and procedures and the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; Moderate experience designing portable and mobile radio subscriber templates for Motorola P25 system;Moderate experience using Motorola CPS (Customer Programming Software) for portable and mobile radio subscribers for P25 radio systems, including APX series radios;Ability to work proficiently with electronic components and assemblies;Ability to work effectively with or without direct supervision;Ability to obtain FCC (Federal Communications Commission) General Class Radio Telephone License or industry equivalent within one year of employment;Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, and other emergency response agencies.Physical RequirementsThis work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking, hearing, use of hands and fingers, handling, feeling and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, walking and sitting and occasionally requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting, smelling, pushing, pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements and requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; work requires vocal communication to express or exchange ideas orally and to convey detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; work requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, working with explosives, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).Special RequirementsMust possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
