PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Handles communication in the various areas of the Emergency Department using CCHS telephone etiquette policy.
- Receives records and relays messages promptly and courteously.
- Makes 911 calls for Trauma Codes/Alerts, Heart Alerts/Codes, Code Delta.
- Places calls to physicians for patient disposition as requested.
- Receives inter- and intra-departmentalcommunications.
- Directs physicians to appropriate nursing personnel for physician orders.
- Delivers telephone messages to patients promptly
- Functions as receptionist and directs patients and visitors, provides visitor passes at ED information desk.
- Uses the ED Tracker system functionality appropriately.
- Demonstrates knowledge of facility regulations regarding visitors.
- Completes accurate demographic and insurance information, including verification of certain insurance types. Performs registration of patients using wireless laptop computers.
- Maintains a solid working knowledge of third party payor specifics relative to the Emergency Department, reducing financial risk for all parties; maximize delivery of patient care.
- Performs clerical duties related toadmission/discharge/transferusing the HIS system.
- Orders patient testing and enters and sends lab specimens using the Powerchart system.
- Prints records as requested by physician from the Access Anywhere system.
- Makes entries into Disclosure Trac system to comply with HIPPA regulations, for all information released to reporting agencies.
- Assists in development and implementation of customized new employee orientations.
- Precepting of new Emergency Department employees.
- Active members of various committees and work groups.
- Assists with records and reports, preparation and assembling of charts and forms.
- Assists administrative residents with follow-up including sending letters and faxes to physicians and outside agencies and other health care facilities.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental and safety rules and practices.
- Reports to supervisor any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Two years experience in a medical, financial or marketing institution. Experience in a patient care environment preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
