With our core values of Simplicity , Safety , Transparency , Humility , Attention to Detail and Growth guiding everything we do, we're shaping the future of automation in dynamic markets.As a Principal Architect for On-Vehicle & Embedded Systems you will be responsible for defining and guiding the technical architecture of ASI's on-board autonomy software and embedded systems, with a primary focus on the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) and Vehicle Artificial Intelligence (VAI). The VCU executes autonomy plans safely and reliably on the vehicle and the VAI processes perception data to ensure the vehicle drives safely through the environment. This role ensures that complex, safety-critical vehicle control components are designed to be reliable, maintainable, and scalable across product lines. It also contributes to R&D efforts by evaluating and prototyping new technologies that support ASI's roadmap for advanced on-vehicle and embedded autonomy systems. Working closely with the Lead Principal Architect and other Principal Architects (the Principal Architecture Team or PAT), the Principal Architect for On-Vehicle & Embedded Systems provides deep domain expertise in embedded development, real-time systems, and integration with ASI's overall autonomy platform.ResponsibilitiesDefine and drive the technical direction of the software and system for on-vehicle autonomy controllers and embedded components, specifically the VCU and VAI, and the integration with perception, planning, and control algorithms.Provide technical leadership and guidance on best practices in embedded software design, real-time systems, and integration with autonomy and perception stacks.Ensure that on-vehicle systems meet requirements for performance, safety, and functional reliability, in collaboration with Functional Safety and Validation Engineers.Collaborate with AI/ML individuals and others on the Principal Architecture Team to help define interfaces between perception/planning/control algorithms and embedded execution environments.Participate in R&D activities to evaluate, prototype, and help realize roadmap technology items relevant to on-vehicle and embedded autonomy systems.Work with Simulation Specialists to validate embedded system behavior in simulated and real-world scenarios.Develop and maintain clear technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and interface specifications.Support and report to the Lead Principal Architect in driving cohesive system-wide architectural standards and technology strategy.Required QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.8+ years of experience in embedded software development, real-time systems, or on-vehicle control systems using languages relevant to embedded systems (e.g., C/C++, embedded Python).Proven expertise in designing and architecting embedded solutions for complex, safety-critical applications.Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS), embedded Linux, and hardware/software integration.Experience working with communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet, serial) in vehicle or robotics contexts.Understanding of functional safety principles (e.g., ISO 26262) is highly desirable.Ability to produce high-quality documentation and communicate complex technical designs clearly to diverse audiences.At Autonomous Solutions, Inc.
