Elementary School Team Leader - Community Coordinator
The Elementary School Team Leader will head a team of Safety Educators providing Vision Zero traffic safety education programs for students in Grades K-5 and other at-risk populations, including New Yorkers with physical, cognitive, and language challenges. The role aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and injuries through comprehensive planning and execution of school-based education programs.
Responsibilities include:
Serving as a lead educator for Grade K-5 traffic safety programs across the city.Supervising Safety Educators and assisting with curriculum development, pilot testing, onboarding, coaching, and staff training.Overseeing scheduling, outreach benchmarks, and timely completion of program reports.Building relationships with school and community organizations, providing training to professionals and volunteers.Conducting education classes for drivers involved in traffic violations as part of the Dangerous Vehicle Abatement Program (DVAP).Engaging in on-street outreach, participating in community events, health fairs, and seasonal outreach activities.Becoming certified as Child Passenger Safety Technicians to conduct car safety seat inspections, and possibly operating car seat fitting stations.Minimum Qualifications:
Either a baccalaureate degree with two years of relevant community work experience, orHigh school diploma or equivalent with six years of relevant experience, with at least one year of experience as described above, orEquivalent education and/or experience.Preferred Skills:
- Experience teaching adults; K-12 teaching experience is a plus.
- Bi-lingual abilities are advantageous.
- A valid NYS driver's license is preferred.
