Position Summary

Join San Diego State University as the Electron Microscope Facility Technician (Instructional Support Tech III) and play a vital role in supporting cutting-edge research with state-of-the-art microscopy equipment. In this essential role, youll oversee daily operations, collaborate with researchers, and ensure the ongoing functionality of critical equipment, contributing to the success of various academic and research initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the SDSU Electron Microscope Facility, ensuring smooth and efficient access to shared research microscopes.
  • Collaborate with and train users on the proper operation of research microscopes, providing expert guidance to enhance research outcomes.
  • Oversee the continued funding, maintenance, and functionality of equipment within the Electron Microscope Facility.
  • Provide input and guidance on microscopy requirements for laboratory courses, ensuring alignment with academic and research needs.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination with faculty, staff, and students to optimize facility usage and address any technical needs.
Position Information
  • Full-time, benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • Position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education And Experience

Equivalent to four years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to specialty area to which assigned.

OR Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

OR Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the specialty area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Key Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the principles, information, and methods related to electron microscopy.
  • Knowledge of the materials and supplies related to biological material and nanostructure specimens.
  • Ability to plan, organize and schedule work; ability to operate and repair technical and scientific equipment.
  • Ability to develop off-campus resources related to the discipline for obtaining materials or equipment.

Compensation

Salary is based on your experience, education, and qualifications, within the departments budget and equity guidelines.

  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,053 - $8,765/month; hiring salary not expected to exceed $7,348/month.
