About the role

Techno is actively seeking a knowledgeable and detail-driven Electrical Inspector to join our dedicated project team in Queens, NY. This position supports an ongoing modernization project at a major wastewater treatment facility, with a focus on upgrading and enhancing the plant's electrical distribution systems to support long-term operational reliability and performance.

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all electrical construction activities, ensuring full compliance with project specifications, electrical codes, and safety standards. You'll work closely with engineers, contractors, and project managers to verify installations, troubleshoot field issues, and contribute to the successful delivery of a high-impact infrastructure initiative.

What you'll do

  • Inspect and evaluate electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Review electrical design drawings and specifications to ensure alignment with code requirements and project goals.
  • Monitor installation of conduit, wiring, panels, lighting systems, and other electrical components to verify conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, field inspectors, and contractors.
  • Witness and verify testing of electrical systems, including continuity, grounding, insulation resistance, and load capacity.
  • Conduct field inspections, document findings, and report any issues or discrepancies to the project manager and construction team.
  • Review blueprints, project plans, and materials to ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), NYC Electrical Code, and other applicable standards.
  • Verify contractor adherence to contract requirements, quality control standards, and safety protocols.
  • Coordinate with construction managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure timely project progress and adherence to deadlines.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Assist with the review and approval of electrical submittals, shop drawings, and product data.
  • Witness and verify field testing of equipment such as transformers, switchgear, panels, and emergency power systems.
  • Monitor site safety practices and ensure all project work complies with local, state, and federal safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical inspection for building or infrastructure construction projects.
  • Prior experience with power distribution systems, lighting, fire alarm, and emergency power is highly desirable.
  • NYS or NYC Electrical License or equivalent inspection certification is preferred.
  • Experience with electrical systems in pump stations, treatment plants, or public infrastructure projects is a plus.
  • Given the multiple inspection sites involved in this assignment, candidates must be willing to travel as necessary within the NYC area.
  • Experience with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors, engineers, and project managers.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to maintain thorough documentation.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and NYC electrical safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
