Education And/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field plus 5-8 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Training in the application of national electrical codes and standards.
- Good knowledge of codes and standards for hazardous electrical classifications
Preferred Knowledge And Experience
- RNG, CNG, and/or LNG experience would be a plus
- Training in PLC programming
- Licensed Professional Engineer would be a strong desire
The Electrical Engineer will design, develop and maintain electrical systems and/or components to required specifications, focusing on economy, safety, reliability, quality and sustainability. They will review and confirm design accuracy and match with Codes and project specifications. A good understanding of all engineering disciplines and national and international codes and standards are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Generation of electrical concepts and control concepts.
- Analyze client needs and develop project requirements.
- Development of single line diagrams, electrical panel drawings, cable diagrams, site installations diagrams, interconnection diagrams (in CAD) to North American standards.
- Electrical load calculations (480v/600v)
- Working knowledge of power studies (short circuit study, coordination, arc flash…)
- Component and cable ratings checks to standards.
- Deep understanding of controls and ESD circuit design.
- Selection and specification of components
- Preparation of Bills of materials
- Preparation of Material requisitions
- Check and verify engineering documentation complies with project code and standards
- Generation of manuals
- Verification that equipment is built as per documentation
- Obtain necessary approval for electrical installations when required
- Site support of service staff by phone, remote connection or hands on commissioning
- Detail specification of equipment/components used for use in sales literature product specifications
- Initiate product/ system improvements
- Understand market development in the CNG business work with marketing and sales
- Monitor product problems related to electrical and control and identify root cause of failures/ malfunctioning
- Generation and control of engineering documents as per company procedures.
Project engineering for assigned projects. This includes as a minimum:
- Assist in preparation of project scope documents
- Specification of code and standard requirements
- Review and sign project/manufacturing documents to ensure the design is safe and meets code requirements.
- Monitor project engineering time schedule and potential problems communicated to the Group Lead.
- Test requirements worked out and documented.
- Ensure all team members are at all times informed of changes and change control is enforced strictly.
- Cost estimating when required and cost analysis of projects/products in order to give direction for cost improvement.
- Liaison with client and installation sub-contractor on overall project when required.
