Electrical Engineer Contract Duration: Through 08/31/2026 (with potential for extension) Location: Houston, TX 77079 (80% Office-Based, up to 25% Travel, some travel outside Houston market) Work Model: Hybrid (In-Office: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday; Remote: Wednesday, Friday) Position Summary: The Electrical Engineer III will backfill a position within the Facility Design Group, managing and overseeing the electrical and controls design aspects of expansion and maintenance capital projects. This role requires managing third-party contractors who perform detailed design work, ensuring compliance with company standards, industry regulations, budgets, and schedules. The candidate will work closely within a very large team and will need to switch efficiently between technical and management communications. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage design and engineering efforts for large horsepower (10,000 to 30,000 HP) turbine and motor-driven centrifugal compressor stations.
- Manage third-party contractors responsible for detailed design work.
- Operate within a fast-paced environment balancing technical and managerial responsibilities.
- Spend the first few months running and familiarizing with the system - including websites, specifications, and documentation - to ensure alignment with industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with NEC requirements for industrial and Hazardous Classified Areas.
- Design and oversee electrical systems including:
- Power systems (120/208V, 480V, and 4160V) including lighting, motor controls, switchgear, transformers, generators, grounding, and cathodic protection.
- Controls systems based on Allen-Bradley PLCs, Wonderware HMI, motor control circuits, valve actuators, PID controllers, and Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD).
- Instrumentation systems such as smart and analog transmitters, gauges, RTDs, thermocouples, and gas/flame detectors.
- Develop project scope, schedules, capital cost estimates, and execution plans.
- Review and approve design deliverables including drawings, reports, and material listings.
- Evaluate vendor quotations, prepare technical evaluations, and recommend equipment and materials.
- Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
- Incorporate lessons learned from previous projects into design improvements.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Support and lead department initiatives as needed.
- Ensure all designs comply with regulatory, environmental, health, and safety requirements.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 6 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably with oil & gas industry experience.
- Compressor station experience is highly desirable; gas compression experience is a bonus.
- Experience with meter station operations is a plus.
- Proficient in power systems and instrumentation; familiarity with controls/automation is beneficial, though expertise in all three is not mandatory.
- Experience managing third-party contractors and coordinating with large teams.
- Knowledge of SharePoint and Oracle platforms is desirable.
- Strong ability to communicate and switch between technical and management contexts effectively.

Qualifications: Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 6-7 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering and project management
Preferred:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Proven innovation and change management skills
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively
- Strong problem-solving skills with technical and business acumen
- Effective communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
