Electrical Automation Engineer - Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories : Job Details

As an Automation Engineer, a typical day might include the following:

• Further develop and maintain a detailed understanding of electric power systems and how to protect, monitor, and control the power system.
• Assist in developing control system specifications, network diagrams, and automation controller code.
• Assist with application literature, instruction manuals, and data sheets.
• Provide automation engineering and system engineering support for customer applications.
• Assist in writing and reviewing innovative power system control solutions to present to customer.
• Model, teach, and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

Required Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Excellent technical training skills
• Working knowledge of automation controllers, network switches, and protective relay communication at an electrical utility, industrial plant
• Knowledge of power system communication methods, protocols, and standards
• Knowledge of system networking topologies and infrastructure
• Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of SEL products
• Knowledge of Software Defined Networking
• Experience designing control systems for industrial or utility customers
• Knowledge of power system design
• Expertise in control drawing layout and control drawing CAD tools
• Background in requirements engineering
• Typically 2+ years experience in electric power systems, automation practices, and philosophies

Pay Range Data

Automation Engineer $69,100 -$108,100

We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the salary range may differ if filled at a different level. Our salary ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
