To serve as administrator of the East Carolina University School, the Principal will cultivate a culture of innovation that supports effective instructional practices and strategies to promote student academic success and personal growth for all students and staff. The Principal will collaborate to develop and implement policies, programs, curriculum activities, professional development, and budgets aligned with the school's mission. Additionally, the Principal will work with university staff to support teacher leadership preparation, school leadership, and education research. The lab school involves cross-campus collaboration to provide comprehensive support addressing students' academic, social-emotional, physical, and community needs. The school will include one class per grade level from kindergarten through 5th grade, in partnership with Pitt County Schools, housed within a local elementary school. Responsibilities include Leadership; Positive School Culture; Administrative and Human Resources; Clinical Experience Coordination; Community Relations; Strategic and Organizational Planning.Leadership (40%)• Provide leadership to motivate effective instruction and support personnel to achieve high performance, fostering student growth and development.• Collaborate with the University School Executive Director and ECU faculty to conceptualize and implement the school's broad goals, policies, programs, and schedules.• Cultivate leadership among students and staff.• Develop and manage policies, programs, curriculum, and budgets to promote educational and professional development.Positive School Culture (20%)• Foster collaboration within the school community.• Develop a professional community of teachers focused on improving instruction through curriculum alignment, peer observations, and problem-solving.• Create an environment that inspires innovation in teaching and learning.• Build an inclusive culture where staff and students are engaged and invested in the school's vision.• Encourage teachers to adopt inquiry and exploration in their practice.Administration and Human Resources (20%)• Recruit and select qualified teachers and staff comfortable with innovation.• Define staff responsibilities and accountability, and interpret the school program to the community in collaboration with faculty and the ECU School Advisory Board.• Facilitate professional growth activities for staff and develop teacher leaders.• Collaborate with university staff to ensure access to data for research purposes.Clinical Experience Coordination (10%)• Support clinical placements for ECU teacher education and leadership students, working with faculty to enhance field experiences.• Coordinate a comprehensive field experience schedule aligned with instructional activities and in collaboration with the ECU liaison.Community Relations (10%)• Build and strengthen relationships with school and community stakeholders.• Develop partnerships to enhance community engagement and student success.• Leverage partnerships to design wrap-around services for students.• Maintain ongoing communication about school resources.• Collaborate with families and community members to improve learning outcomes.• Respond to community needs and mobilize resources to promote excellence.• Advocate for students and their families.All other duties as assigned.This position is contingent upon available funding.
