INTRODUCTION

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997, focusing on solutions for refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and migrants. DRC Ethiopia began operations in 2009 and has been responding to the needs of refugees, IDPs, and vulnerable host communities ever since.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Agriculture, NRM & DRM Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing agricultural practices, DRM plans, emergency management, and early warning information systems from the woreda to the community level. Responsibilities include developing strategies for integrated disaster risk treatment, supporting local stakeholders in DRM plan development, overseeing risk management projects, and providing technical advice on risk assessments and mitigation activities.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial assessments of climate vulnerability, livelihood, and conflict sensitivity.
  • Conduct consultative community meetings on project interventions related to agriculture, irrigation, and agronomy.
  • Provide support to agro-pastoralists and follow up on agronomic practices and livestock management.
  • Facilitate farmer's field days and demonstrate agronomic practices to improve agro-pastoralist practices.
  • Work closely with government AEWs, community leaders, and local authorities to ensure community engagement.
  • Identify challenges in natural resource management practices and propose improvement plans.
  • Provide training on physical and biological conservation practices.
  • Develop and implement natural resource management plans and disaster risk reduction strategies.
  • Support disaster information management systems and guide community-planned resilience-building initiatives.
  • Provide guidance during the establishment and strengthening of NRM committees.

    Experience and Technical Competencies:

    Diploma/Certificate in General Agriculture, NRM, DRMS, Rural Development, or related fields.

    2 years of relevant experience in community development work.

    Fluent in English and local languages.

    BSc in Agriculture, NRM, Environmental Studies, or related fields.
