Description:

This full-time faculty position involves teaching courses in the PK-3 Credential Program, with specialization in Early Childhood Education, Early Literacy, and Early Math, as well as foundational courses for teacher credential candidates. Teaching formats include co-teaching, online, face-to-face, and hybrid. Responsibilities include supervising clinical practice of teacher candidates.

The ECE Program Director's responsibilities encompass program leadership, administration, teaching, and event planning. They oversee program development, accreditation, admissions, recruitment, faculty management, student support and advising, and representing the university externally. The director also plans student orientations and residencies.

The PK-3 credential curriculum has been recently developed to provide candidates with a bachelor's degree and a PK-3 teaching credential through a two-year non-traditional undergraduate program. The curriculum emphasizes preparing candidates to serve diverse learners, including English language learners, utilizing technology, and integrating Christian values. The program is accredited by CAEP, WSCUC, and CTC.

Specialization:

  • Multiple Subject Credential with specialization in Early Childhood Education, Early Literacy, Early Math; additional credentials (administrative, early childhood education, or special education) are preferred.

Program Director Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in collaboration with the Chair and Program Directors; develop and implement curriculum; foster partnerships with local PK-8 schools; oversee admissions and recruitment; plan orientations and residencies; support and advise candidates; recruit and mentor adjunct faculty; contribute to accreditation and state reports.

Faculty Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in educational foundations, methodology, pedagogy, and specialization areas; supervise student teachers; support faith integration; engage in research or clinical practice; stay current with California's educational standards; participate in university and professional service; collaborate with professional organizations; may work at regional campuses.

Level:

  • Open rank, based on experience.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated Christian faith aligned with APU's mission (faculty must sign a Statement of Faith).
  • At least 12 units of Early Childhood Education coursework.
  • Valid Multiple Subject or Early Childhood Education teaching credential from any US state.
  • PhD or EdD in education or related field; practitioners with extensive PK-12 experience without a doctorate may be considered.
  • Experience with online teaching and assessment technologies.
  • Commitment to effective teaching, scholarly activity, and service.
  • Experience serving diverse populations.
  • Team-oriented and willing to travel to regional campuses.

Experience:

  • Public school teaching in cross-cultural settings.
  • Mentoring diverse candidates.
  • Graduate online or hybrid teaching preferred.

Workload:

  • 29 units, 11-month contract.

Compensation:

  • Annual salary range: $68,640 to $125,460, based on experience and qualifications. Includes a benefits package.
