General

This is a full-time, FLSA exempt position reporting to the Vice President of Maintenance and Engineering. The Maintenance Director must meet FAA 14 CFR 119.67(e) requirements. Responsibilities include overseeing outside contract and company flight mechanics, the Maintenance Control department, and all related line/heavy maintenance activities, working closely with the Director of Quality, Director of Technical Services, Director of Operations, and VP of Maintenance and Engineering. The role ensures compliance with all FAR requirements and the company's GMM standards, promoting safety, security, quality, and regulatory compliance across all operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accountable for duties of the Director of Maintenance as per Part 119.65(a)(4).
  • Monitor the performance of the Maintenance Department to meet company goals and conformance with the Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program.
  • Ensure legal compliance and safe operations, aligning with directives from the DO or VP of Maintenance and Engineering.
  • Maintain aircraft in accordance with Eastern Airlines and manufacturer standards.
  • Oversee all line and heavy maintenance work performed on aircraft.
  • Review maintenance logs for compliance with procedures and airworthiness releases.
  • Coordinate with Safety and Operations for corrective actions.
  • Maintain NEF List as per GMM Chapter 6, Section 12.
  • Manage the CASS review board.
  • Negotiate maintenance-related contractual agreements.
  • Determine the use of tools, test equipment, and interchangeable parts.
  • Ensure proper installation of emergency equipment.
  • Recommend amendments to Operations Specifications.
  • Collaborate on the Continuing Analysis and Surveillance System to address issues and improve maintenance.
  • Allocate resources for CASS action items.
  • Understand and apply relevant GMM chapters, Operations Specifications, and CFRs.
  • Develop work instructions for aircraft systems, structures, Powerplant, and avionics.
  • Plan maintenance schedules and forecast requirements.
  • Coordinate with operational departments to optimize flight schedules.
  • Develop annual maintenance and engineering plans and daily schedules.
  • Manage materials planning, purchasing, and inventory control.
  • Determine repair methods and ensure proper approval processes.
  • Administer component repairs and monitor vendor performance.
  • Manage the Maintenance Department to align with operational needs.
  • Plan for major component tasks and staffing.
  • Review qualifications and training of maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure safety instructions are observed and safety regulations are followed.
  • Participate in Emergency Response duties.
  • Prevent FAA and other violations, using SMS and risk assessments to address deficiencies.
  • Monitor policies and procedures to maintain safety and compliance.
  • Ensure maintenance tasks are performed according to instructions and schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Maintenance and Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Current Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings, held for at least five years.
  • Meet FAA 14 CFR 119.67(c)(1-3)(4)(i-ii) requirements.
  • At least three years' recent experience maintaining large aircraft, including one year in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in maintaining aircraft in the same category and class as the company's fleet.
  • Knowledge of CFRs, aviation safety standards, maintenance manuals, FAA Operations Specifications, and related regulations.
  • Familiarity with accessing online aircraft manuals.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Pass a two-year drug and alcohol background check, pre-employment drug test, and criminal records check.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the United States.
