Our history of academic excellence in Christian community began in 1954. We currently teach students in preschool through grade 5, and have one class per grade level. We are best known for our family-like community environment, our close and caring relationships with students, our Christian faith integration, and our high academic standards. We maintain a strong relationship with our sponsoring congregation, Messiah Lutheran Church (a congregation of the ELCA). Our Mission: Messiah Lutheran School aims to equip students for lives of world-changing Christian service. Together with their families, we facilitate students' growth in mind, body, and spirit. We offer first-rate academic, faith, and co-curricular programs so that, confident in God's abundant love in Christ, students are emboldened to use their well-developed skills, understandings, and character in new and diverse ways. Position Purpose Students and their families are in need of child care before the school opens classrooms to students at 8:30 a.m. The Early Care schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on school days, and is a job that is easy to pair with other employment or with parenting responsbilities. The Early Care Supervisor checks students in to school, transfering them from the care of their parents to the care of Messiah School. They provide supervision and safety for students until they are released to their classrooms. Essential Job Functions
  • Monitor the door access system, and admit students and parents to the building
  • Assist parents in signing their students in to the Early Care program
  • Supervise students while awaiting the school day
  • Teaches, models, and reinforces health and safety practices.
  • Offers games/ activities for students attending care.
  • Teaches and supports healthy relationships and conflict resolution.
  • Ensures student safety.
  • Communicates student progress, needs, and concerns to teachers and administration.
  • Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
Additional Duties:
  • Assist guidance, pupil services staff or building administration, as needed.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned
Equipment Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
  • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
  • Ability to be patient, firm, and clear.
  • Ability to maintain composure and extend patience and support to struggling students.
  • Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to work outdoors.
  • Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Works in standard office and school building environments. Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities. Ability to maintain composure with children. Qualifications Profile: Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Clear background check
  • Prior experience working with children desirable.
