The Beacon Learning team offers specialized academic therapy in Charleston, SC and remotely, focusing on dyslexia, dysgraphia, reading and math tutoring, executive functioning coaching, and SAT/ACT prep. Beacon Learning is dedicated to providing personalized support and strategies to help students achieve academic success. Emphasizing both in-person and remote sessions, Beacon Learning serves a diverse range of students with specific learning needs.

Role Description

This is a part-time subcontracting role for a Dyslexia Therapist. Dyslexia Therapists have the autonomy to create their own schedules and the flexibility to take on as many/ few clients as their schedules allow. Many of our therapists work full-time as teachers/ specialists/ interventionists/ coaches who pick up a 1-3 clients after school or on the weekends (if that's what they prefer). We also have therapists who are retired teachers and take on as many clients as they'd like. This role is very flexible and the culture is very supportive.

Therapists are responsible for providing 50-minute personalized therapy sessions to individuals with dyslexia, developing individualized learning plans based on structured literacy, and monitoring student progress. Additional responsibilities include conducting assessments, collaborating with parents and teachers, being open to continued professional development, and providing strategies for overcoming learning challenges. This role is located in Mount Pleasant, SC and the greater Charleston area, with some work-from-home flexibility. *It is not possible for this role to be fully remote.

Pay Scale

Our dyslexia therapy position pay scale varies based on experience and certifications. The pay scale *starts at $50 per 50-minute session, which equates to $60 per hour worked with a client.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or Psychology
  • Relevant certification or training in dyslexia therapy is preferred, such as: OG training, LTRS training, Wilson Reading System training, IMSE training, etc.
  • Strong understanding of dyslexia and other learning disorders
  • Knowledge of individualized therapy plan development and implementation
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with parents, teachers, and other educational professionals
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
