Reporting to the Director of Development Services, the Prospect Research Manager is part of a dynamic and close-knit development team leading the seminary's $65M Abundant Spirit campaign. The Manager works with frontline fundraisers to ensure each development officer has a high potential portfolio and sound research and analysis to guide cultivation and solicitation strategies.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree
- 3-5 years donor research and analytics experience in a higher education, healthcare or non-profit setting.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Theological education
- Experience in a theological/seminary setting
- Experience in library science, data analytics, or related fields
Essential functions and responsibilities:
- Develop strong partnerships with frontline fundraisers and development staff to provide prospect research, analytics and related support.
- Research, organize, and analyze information from a variety of sources to determine capacity, relationships, and philanthropic interests, including managing research requests for donor and prospect meetings and strategy sessions.
- Identify new prospective donors using a range of resources and strategies, making assignment and moves management recommendations when appropriate; assist with prospecting and portfolio projects.
- Lead and/or manage research-related initiatives such as strategy sessions, event bios, prospecting projects, portfolio reviews, board pipeline development, and other prospect development-related work.
- Develop and monitor news alerts to share with appropriate Development staff and leadership.
- Collaborate with Development Operations colleagues on data and systems projects and help ensure data integrity in Jenzabar Advancement CRM.
- Provide grant/foundation prospect research in collaboration with other seminary departments and through Grant Assistant software
- Assist on special projects and perform other duties as needed.

- Experience developing prospecting strategies to uncover and prioritize new potential donors
- Ability to analyze data and assess donor/prospect capacity, affinity, and interest to support the
- Seminary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
- Familiarity with fundraising databases, experience with Jenzabar a plus
- Excellent communication, organization, analytical, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both individually and as part of a team, as well as to work under tight deadlines and with shifting priorities
- Ability to partner with all levels of seminary colleagues - senior leadership, development officers, etc. - to address research needs and aid with strategy.
