Overview
As a Document Review Analyst within the Discovery and Disclosure group, specifically in the role of a FOIA Document Analyst, you will be instrumental in assisting a federal agency in responding to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act (PA) requests. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks, including:
- Receiving, reviewing, and analyzing new FOIA requests to ensure they meet the necessary criteria for processing under FOIA and/or PA.
- Conducting record searches, applying lawful exemptions and redactions, and releasing responsive records to requesters within prescribed timeframes.
- Providing information on FOIA and client FOIA procedures to employees and requesters.
- Assisting FOIA specialists in implementing privacy policies and procedures.
- Processing records in response to litigation requests, maintaining the same deliverables as non-litigation requests.
- Triage new FOIA requests, reviewing and assigning them to ensure sufficiency.
- Processing complex FOIA requests by conducting thorough record searches, reviewing, organizing, and analyzing search results, applying lawful exemptions, and redacting responsive records in compliance with FOIA policy and established procedures.
- Exercising discretion and judgment in determining the responsiveness of records to FOIA requests and identifying and redacting protected information.
- Preparing correspondence with requestors and final document packages, releasing redacted responsive records.
- Researching and analyzing sensitive, classified, and controversial data to make pertinent FOIA determinations and evaluating various correspondence and reports for FOIA applicability and associated policies.
- Tracking and managing FOIA requests from receipt to production using an electronic case management system.
- Working independently and efficiently at a high-performance level with minimal input from program leadership.
- Supporting Implementation and Operations Management best practices, performing analysis and diagnosis of client issues, and demonstrating a foundational understanding of the client environment and overall project scope.
- Identifying and solving problems using analysis, experience, and judgment, while working as part of a team in a process-oriented and deadline-driven environment.
- Utilizing professional oral and written communication skills effectively.
Qualifications
- Ability to maintain the required clearance for this role.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
- Three (3) years of general work experience and one (1) year of experience processing FOIA or litigation-related document review requests, either at the federal service or equivalent public or private sector.
- If FOIA and Privacy Act experience is not available, then 1+ year of similar office or HR experience can suffice.
- Familiarity with the nine (9) FOIA exemptions.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Word.
Preferred
- Prior professional services or federal consulting experience.
- Bachelors Degree.
