The Divisional Music and Worship Arts Director is responsible for the development, promotion, and administration of music and worship arts throughout the Golden State Division. Leadership will be given in ministries and events initiated and conducted on a divisional level, while support is provided for programs at local units.

Responsibilities
  • Create and implement a plan to encourage, grow and resource all music and worship arts programming in the Golden State Division.
  • Create, conduct and coordinate all divisional music groups, including but not limited to: Divisional Band, Divisional Youth Band, Divisional Chorus, Divisional Worship Team, etc.
  • Participate in and support all divisional events with musical / worship arts elements and audio visual support as directed by divisional administration.
  • Participate in and coordinate musical ensembles for events as requested by divisional administration and corps units (e.g., Christmas events, Kettle Kick Offs, parades, community events).
  • Be a resource to the corps music and worship arts efforts across the division, including training, support, consultation and other assistance; plan and implement music and worship leadership seminars, workshops, music days, etc. at corps, regional and divisional levels; visit units regularly to assess needs and assist in growth; help the Corps Officer create a plan for development (including Sunday and mid-week visits).
  • Serve as programmatic lead for Music Camp (recruit staff, organize curriculum, develop publicity materials, support camper spiritual development, organize planning committee, etc.).
  • Create, maintain and curate inventories and libraries (instruments, equipment, brass, vocal, musicals, leadership materials, etc.).
  • Support in the management and correct usage of CCLI licenses at all units.
  • Lead and support corps / divisional involvement in USA Western Territory music and worship arts events (Encore, Western Music Institute, Worship Arts Retreat, Territorial Youth Band, Territorial Youth Chorus, etc.).
  • Serve as liaison to visiting Salvation Army musical groups and assist event planning as needed.
  • Work with the Territorial Music Secretary to carry out territorial objectives and training; participate in the Territorial Music Committee and related meetings as directed.
  • Other related duties as required.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in music or music education preferred
  • At least 2 years of related experience preferred
  • Uniformed Salvationist, soldiering in the Golden State Division required
  • Experience as a Local Officer required
  • High level proficiency on an instrument (piano preferred) required
  • Versatility in gospel arts, brass, vocal and contemporary avenues of music and expression
  • A valid CA driver's license within 30 days of employment required and clear MVR
  • Required to pass criminal background check

  • Strong English communication; bilingual in Spanish preferred; broader language understanding is a plus
  • Knowledge of Salvation Army protocols and ability to manage administrative tasks
  • Ability to create, maintain and adhere to a budget
  • Ability to promote programs and events through social media, publications and other means as necessary
  • Understanding and adherence to Protecting The Mission policies and guidelines
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Golden State Division and USW Western Territory as needed
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (often musical or sound equipment)
Equipment Used
  • Modern office equipment and relevant software; knowledge of ProPresenter, PowerPoint and other music-based software is a plus
  • Various musical instruments and equipment
