The Division of Geriatric Medicine and Palliative Care at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, ranked #2 in Geriatrics by US News & World Report, is seeking a board-certified Geriatric Medicine physician at the Assistant Professor level. The role involves providing comprehensive medical management for nursing facility residents, ensuring compliance with CMS and NYS DOH standards. Responsibilities include participating in interdisciplinary meetings, responding to resident inquiries, and contributing to quality assurance initiatives.

Clinical Role and Responsibilities
  • Manage medical care for geriatric and non-geriatric nursing facility residents, including primary care, acute illness management, and care transitions.
  • Coordinate behavioral health services for residents with maladaptive behaviors.
  • Manage a caseload of 100-120 residents.
  • Participate in cross-coverage for team member absences.
  • Provide swing shift coverage onsite, including weekends and off-site phone coverage on a rotational basis.
  • Conduct medical assessments for new admissions and readmissions, and write orders for medications, treatments, and diagnostics.
  • Perform physician visits based on resident needs, facility policies, and regulations.
  • Write timely orders and progress notes.
  • Refer residents to specialty services and write related orders.
  • Order rehabilitation services.
  • Participate in advance directives planning and document related orders.
  • Facilitate emergency discharges to hospitals and planned discharges for treatment.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and meetings.
  • Respond promptly to calls from residents and families regarding medical care.
  • Provide medical leadership for quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Qualifications include a current New York Medical License, board certification in Geriatrics, and strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. Clinical and administrative experience are preferred.
