Reports to: Director for Transportation Supervises: None Term of Employment: 12 months Salary: Office Support II-57 FLSA Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-ExemptQualifications:
  • Graduation from high school; Associate degree preferred; a minimum of five years of customer service experience required
  • Excellent organizational, communications, management, and computer skills are esstential
  • Independent problem solvers and self-starters strongly desired
  • Knowledge of school transportation, equipment, applicable practices, and regulations
  • Must obtain and maintain a current North Carolina commercial driver's license with proper endorsements to drive a school/activity bus, and pass a DOT physical along with drug and alcohol testing
  • Must possess leadership qualities and the desire to produce a positive and professional workplace
  • Bilingual preferred, but not required
The Transportation Dispatch/Office Assistant shall perform a variety of administrative and specialty functions for the transportation department, including providing assistance and information to fellow staff members, school system administrators, and the public. Under general supervision, operates communication systems utilizing telephone, computer, and two-way radio for relaying important informationEssential Job Functions:
  • Operates a multi-line telephone system providing professional, front-line telephone customer service
  • Maintains files and records, manual and electronic documents, (e.g. school billings, transportation requests, fuel reports, mileage reports, repair logs, work orders, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance
  • Dispatches transportation personnel (e.g. route changes, breakdown responses, activity transportation requests, etc.) for the purpose of processing service requests and ensuring an effective and timely resolution of transportation issues
  • Communicates with parents, school administrators, and the general public to convey routing and assignment information
  • Maintains open and clear communication with all transportation staff on transportation issues received in the department
  • Assists in the processing and assignment of garage-based activity buses and field trips within the Travel Tracker system
  • Required to learn certain operating systems used by the department to fulfill daily operations, such as TIMs, GPS tracking systems, BSIP and other programs used within the departmentPrepares documents and reports (e.g. school transportation billings, memos, work requests, dispatch logs, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information to departmental staff
  • Required to work a staggered work schedule as needed
  • Perform other duties and tasks as required by the mission statement or delegated by the Transportation Director
Physical and Cognitive Requirements: The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to this job classification within Moore County Schools. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.Must be able to:
