We are proud of our world-class faculty, groundbreaking research and international reputation for excellence in sustainability, community engagement and innovation.Position SummaryReporting to the Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Student Life, the Director of the Women's Resource Center (WRC) oversees all aspects of the department's activities in support of the WRC's mission: “To advocate for the best educational and campus experience for all members of our community by advancing social justice, ensuring access to personal empowerment for students of all genders, and by working towards a safe and healthy campus.”The Director provides strategic leadership for the WRC's programming and education programs, directly supervises up to one professional staff, and indirectly supports a total team of up to ten professional and student staff. This position specifically works towards creating initiatives, programs and partnerships that not only create a welcoming environment for all women students at PSU, but also empowers and supports them in their programming around social justice issues, personal safety, and academic success. The WRC Director is responsible for the administration, management, and operation of the department with the aim of increasing the safety, development, competency in feminist social justice work, retention, academic performance, and overall success of participating students.This position leads community building efforts with internal and external constituents; works collaboratively with student leaders, faculty, staff, and community; and engages in intentional educational and cultural programming focused in specific learning outcomes in order to contribute to the vision of the Division of Student Affairs and Portland State University.Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS in a related field from an accredited institution with three years of progressively responsible related experience or a Master's degree in a related field with one year of experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to students of color, gender variant students, LGBTQ students and other sexual orientations/identities, international students, veterans, and student with disabilities;
  • Experience and skills in supervising professional and student staff;
  • Demonstrated experience with office organization and clerical skills;
  • Ability to work in teams and encourage collaboration and shared decision making;
  • Ability to understand and articulate gender-related needs and gender marginalization concerns from a perspective that includes the intersections of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other significant aspects of individual and cultural identity and an understanding of systems of oppression;
  • Knowledge of concepts and practices related to feminist leadership and/or other intersectional feminisms, and justice frameworks related to social change.
  • Minimum of one year of specialized focus and commitment to providing services that reflect the needs of students of color, gender variant students, LGBTQ students and other sexual orientations/identities, international students, veterans, and student with disabilities;
  • Demonstrated in-depth awareness and understanding of one's own cultural background and privilege, how it influences perceptions, values, and practices and engages in the way they shape their relationship to students and staff;
  • Ability to interrupt, disrupt and address prejudice, discrimination, microaggressions and racism that impacts students and staff at the interpersonal, inter-group, and institutional levels;
  • Successful completion of background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with providing education on consent, Title IX, and feminism.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting student learning outcomes assessment related to co-curricular activities;
  • Experience with current higher education practice, theory and research;
  • Knowledge of best practices in student program implementation;
  • Experience managing budgets and demonstrated fiscal responsibility;
  • Knowledge of retention strategies and best practices in higher education in retaining gender diverse students;
  • Experience that would support a high degree of creativity and innovation in developing and facilitating strategies to improve student academic success, retention and graduation;
  • Demonstrated understanding of social media, outreach, and communication strategies for a community-based organization
