Your New Role… The Director of Streaming Content Strategy & Analysis is responsible for supporting the data-driven content investment strategy for CNN's new streaming product. This role ensures that every dollar spent on content is backed by audience engagement, growth impact, and long-term sustainability. Sitting at the intersection of content commissioning, audience analytics, and financial oversight, this leader will partner closely with the VP, Streaming Programming, Editorial & Programming Teams, Global News, Streaming Merchandising, and Finance to establish a structured, insights-driven approach to commissioning and optimizing content across live news, VOD, and original programming.

This is a highly strategic, cross-functional role that requires strong analytical skills, stakeholder management, and deep expertise in streaming audience behavior. The ideal candidate must be comfortable operating in a matrixed environment, working with SVP-level stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Investment Strategy & Budget Ownership
    • Own and manage the content budget, ensuring all content spend decisions align with audience demand and financial objectives.
    • Develop a framework for content investment, balancing live programming, VOD, and original productions to maximize engagement and retention.
    • Partner with Finance to forecast content ROI and ensure responsible budget allocation.
    • Lead cost-benefit analyses on programming initiatives, identifying areas to scale or cut underperforming content.
    • Author, own, and iterate on Creative Briefs to define audience needs and evaluate content performance.
    • Enable rapid experimentation in collaboration with Streaming Content, Merchandising leads, and SVP Video Editorial, allocating budget to innovation efforts.
  • Content Commissioning & Final Review Process
    • Drive the commissioning process in alignment with executive leadership, ensuring content spend is backed by insights and strategic goals.
    • Partner with CNN WW content leadership to assess new show concepts, talent-driven programming, and format experiments.
    • Elevate the company's ability to identify the right content for streaming.
    • Ensure data-driven audience insights guide content decisions, balancing creativity with engagement potential.
    • Develop data-backed ROI business cases for programming slate, based on engagement metrics and subscriber impact.
  • Audience Insights & Content Performance Analysis
    • Measure content performance in partnership with Data Intelligence, Growth, and Streaming Merchandising teams, leveraging analytics to track viewership and retention.
    • Deliver monthly and quarterly performance reports to senior leadership to shape long-term strategies.
    • Identify successful formats and opportunities to sunset underperforming ones.
    • Develop audience segmentation strategies to cater to core viewership and emerging trends.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
    • Act as the central bridge between various teams, ensuring cross-functional alignment on content spend.
    • Work with SVP-level executives to secure buy-in for content investments and strategic priorities.
    • Influence decision-making without direct authority, maintaining strong relationships and credibility.
    • Translate complex data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for creative and business teams.
  • Long-Term Content Strategy & Portfolio Optimization
    • Develop a long-term content strategy that balances live, on-demand, and original programming.
    • Identify market opportunities and white spaces to differentiate the streaming service.
    • Lead windowing strategies for optimal content release and distribution.
    • Establish a decision-making framework to rationalize content spend based on audience insights.
  • Qualifications & Experience

    Must-Haves:

    • 12+ years in content strategy, media analytics, or related fields, with at least 5 years leading teams in streaming or digital media.
