Director of Solutions Architecture

Location: Hybrid – Based in New York/New Jersey (Regular travel to AWS office in Manhattan)

Salary: $150-200 OTE (negotiable) + Benefits (Medical, 401K etc)

Our client is an AWS Premier and Strategic Partner delivering hands-on DevOps, FinOps, and GenAI professional services to high-growth startups. Their mission is to help tech-driven businesses scale smarter, move faster, and extract greater value from the cloud.

With an established presence across EMEA, the business is now expanding into the USA and is hiring a visionary Director of Solutions Architecture to lead technical engagement efforts across North America.

This is a rare opportunity to build a high-impact technical function from the ground up. As the first technical hire in the region, you'll play a critical role in defining and executing our solutions architecture strategy, owning pre-sales engagements, and shaping a top-performing US team. You'll work in close partnership with sales leadership and report directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

Key Requirements

We are looking for a client-facing AWS expert with a strong background in professional services, ideally from a consulting environment focused on startup clients.

Essential qualifications and experience:

• Minimum 5+ years' hands-on AWS experience, including designing, migrating, and maintaining end-to-end solutions
• At least 2+ years in customer-facing technical roles, such as Cloud Architect, Customer Engineer, SRE, or similar
• Minimum 1+ year of experience in a professional services or consulting firm, preferably working with startups
• Expertise in Kubernetes, CI/CD, and DevOps tools in production environments
• Strong background designing DevOps infrastructure for high-scale AWS workloads
• Deep understanding of AWS core services, especially containers, databases, and data services
• Familiarity with Information Security principles and best practices in cloud environments
• Certified AWS Solutions Architect – Associate (Professional or Specialty certification preferred)
• Ability to clearly articulate technical solutions and documentation (SOWs, LOEs, HLDs) to customers and internal teams
• Proven ability to lead end-to-end technical engagements in partnership with commercial stakeholders
• Track record of hiring, mentoring, and leading high-performing technical teams
• Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable managing budgets, timelines, and resources in dynamic environments
• Based in the NY/NJ area, with availability to work remotely and attend meetings at the AWS Manhattan office 1–2 times per week
• Willingness to travel across the East Coast as required

Role & Responsibilities

As Director of Solutions Architecture, you will be responsible for technical pre-sales and solution design across a growing US customer base. Over time, you will lead the expansion and management of a local solutions team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading all technical architecture and scoping conversations with potential clients, in collaboration with the Account Executive team
• Designing end-to-end AWS solutions that are scalable, secure, and aligned with client objectives
• Providing technical leadership throughout the customer lifecycle – from discovery through to solution handoff and delivery
• Representing the technical function at executive-level meetings, conferences, and AWS partner events
• Developing the foundation for a US-based Solutions Architecture practice, including recruitment, mentoring, and performance management
• Collaborating cross-functionally with sales, delivery, and leadership teams to drive market penetration and customer success
• Supporting SOW development, estimations (LOEs), and technical documentation
• Staying current with cloud trends and AWS innovations, ensuring the team delivers best-in-class technical solutions
