Director, Software Engineering - Collections Technology Modernization

Capital One's Card Tech Engineering Organization is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead, manage, mentor, and build exceptional software engineering teams to deliver game changing technologies. The Director must attract and recruit top talent and have the technical acumen to ensure we build compelling, customer-focused solutions in an iterative methodology.

As a candidate for this role, you'll switch from deep technical work with engineers to high-level strategic discussions. You are curious about emerging trends and prototype nascent technologies, while focusing on business value and the right priorities.

As a Director of Software Engineering in Capital One's CardTech Customer Resiliency (CR) team, you will lead Collections technology teams with a focus on modernizing the data ecosystem and the core of the real time intelligent collections (RTIC) application. In CR Collections, we serviceCard customers in difficult financial moments and help them get back to good standing. With RTIC, we are modernizing to support highly flexible, configurable and extensible solutions using Capital One enterprise platforms. You will be part of this modernization journey.

• Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of product-focused software engineers
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team
• Work with product leaders to define the strategy, roadmap and destination architecture
• Manage a portfolio of diverse technology platforms and projects to build scalable applications that meet customer needs
• Continuously improve software engineering practices
• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies
• Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions
• Stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal and external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community
• Encourage innovation and the implementation of cutting-edge technologies, outside-the-box thinking, teamwork, and self-organization

• Bachelor's Degree
• At least 7 years' experience in software development
• At least 5 years' experience in people management
• At least 3 years of experience in public cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure)

• Master's Degree
• 10+ years of experience in software development
• 3+ years of experience building and scaling consumer applications
• 4+ years of experience with AWS

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. This salary information is intended for candidates hired to work within one of these locations and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on hours worked.

McLean, VA: $263,900 - $301,200 for Director, Software Engineering

New York, NY: $287,800 - $328,500 for Director, Software Engineering

Richmond, VA: $239,900 - $273,800 for Director, Software Engineering

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range for that location; the actual salary offered will be stated in the offer letter.

This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
