About The RoleSeeking an experienced Director of Software Development to lead our AI/ML platform. You will oversee a talented engineering team focused on delivering innovative AI capabilities, ensuring reliability, performance, and security. This role involves strategic technical leadership and organizational influence, reporting to the Vice President, Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and own the technical vision for our AI platform, focusing on scalable GenAI capabilities.
• Translate research prototypes into production systems for real customer use cases.
• Collaborate with AI architects, research scientists, and product managers to align long-term vision with deliverables.

Engineering Execution

• Lead the delivery lifecycle of AI software systems from concept to maintenance.
• Establish engineering practices including CI/CD, security, and code quality.
• Build core AI infrastructure to enable reuse and efficiency.

Organizational Leadership

• Build and mentor a diverse, high-performing engineering team.
• Develop leaders and foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, and accountability.
• Ensure clear communication and alignment across distributed teams.

Cross-Functional Influence

• Partner with product, architecture, data science, and research teams to shape strategy.
• Engage with stakeholders and represent the platform's capabilities.
• Champion responsible AI, working with policy, legal, and security teams.

Innovation & Thought Leadership

• Stay updated on AI advancements and evaluate new technologies.
• Encourage continuous learning within the team.
• Represent UKG's AI engineering expertise externally.

Minimum Qualifications

• 12+ years in software development, 5+ years in AI/ML or GenAI systems.
• 8+ years managing engineering teams, with at least 2 at the Director level.
• Proven experience with large-scale AI/ML infrastructure in cloud environments.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems and AI frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.).
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders.
• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field; PhD preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large language models, multimodal architectures, RAG systems.
• Familiarity with MLOps practices and cloud AI platforms.
• Passion for building inclusive, ethical AI solutions.
• Proven ability to collaborate across organizations and drive platform investments.
