Join to apply for the Director, R&D Chemistry role at BioSpace
We are currently seeking an established leader and drug hunter for the R&D (Research & Development) Chemistry group. In this position, they will play a key role in expanding the Regeneron small molecule and peptidomimetic antibody-conjugate drug discovery capabilities, while providing innovation and leadership to seamlessly combine with the companys existing expertise in biologics and novel genetic medicines. The candidate will drive the discovery of multi-modality antibody conjugate drug therapeutics containing diverse payload possibilities (e.g., small molecules cytotoxic and non-cytotoxic, targeted protein degraders, peptidomimetics, receptor agonists, etc.) across research areas such as oncology, metabolic disease/obesity, infectious disease, immunology and inflammation, neuroscience, and ophthalmology. Cultural fit with the Regeneron cross-functional teams will be a key driver for success. The R&D Chemistry team is primarily composed of synthetic organic, medicinal chemistry and bioconjugation scientists that work in a highly collaborative environment with other technology, biology and therapeutic area groups. Successful candidates will have a synthetic organic/medicinal chemistry background and will require small molecule and peptidomimetic discovery and SAR (structure-activity relationship) optimization expertise as well as antibody linker-payload synthesis experience. A firm understanding and grasp of chemical biology strategies and the importance of applying both chemical and biological solutions to solve problems in drug discovery will be key. Significant knowledge in the latest and most advanced bioconjugation techniques, platforms, and strategies is desired. We expect they will act as an inspiring and motivating leader, effective communicator, and strong collaborator to lead and drive project teams to develop novel antibody-targeted drug therapeutics and to address challenges related to synthesis, medicinal chemistry, bioconjugation and optimal in vitro and in vivo properties leading to development candidates.
A day in the life of a Director R&D Chemistry may look like:
This Might Be The Right Role For You If
In order to be considered qualified for the role, you must:
Have a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry (or related), extensive drug discovery experience with antibody-targeted small molecule and peptidomimetic drug modalities including their synthesis and manufacturing, and expertise in modern methods in medicinal chemistry structure-activity relationships. Additional relevant experience should include a deep understanding of biological MOAs, extracellular/intracellular target evaluation, ADME/PK, PD/efficacy, tox evaluation, and a minimum of 10 years of industry experience. A track record of success in the field of small molecules, peptidomimetics, or antibody targeted therapeutics (i.e., advancement of molecules into the clinic), with experience building and leading teams is required. Working collaboratively with both internal and external organizations (e.g., CROs) is essential.
