The Director, Professional Learning and Strategic Initiatives is responsible for independently developing and advancing professional learning and strategic initiatives that foster a more inclusive and mission-aligned campus climate for students, staff, and faculty. As a key leader in the Division of Belonging and Student Affairs ( DBSA ), this position leads campus-wide and divisional efforts to promote belonging through training, organizational learning, and implementation of strategic priorities. This includes coordination of university-wide professional development on belonging and inclusion, support for the execution of the DBSA strategic plan, and leadership of institutional initiatives such as the campus climate survey action planning, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), the Arnold L. Mitchem Dissertation Fellowship, and intergroup dialogue. The Director, Professional Learning and Strategic Initiatives collaborates with partners across the university to foster shared responsibility for belonging and inclusive excellence in alignment with Marquette's Catholic, Jesuit mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Lead Professional Development and Learning: Design, implement, and assess a coordinated professional learning strategy for faculty and staff focused on belonging, inclusive excellence, identity, and organizational development. Lead the planning and delivery of campus-wide workshops, learning communities, and development series in collaboration with Human Resources, academic leaders, and belonging and student affairs staff. Collaborate with academic and co-curricular programs to embed belonging strategies across curricular, leadership and student engagement experiences. Ensure offerings are accessible, evidence-informed, and aligned with institutional values.2. Strategic Planning Implementation: Support the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the DBSA strategic plan. Guide division and campus partners in aligning unit goals with divisional priorities related to equity, well-being, and student success. Facilitate progress tracking and continuous improvement. Serve as the chair of the divisional professional development committee and liaison to other committees that support the strategic plan.3. Lead Campus Climate Study: Lead the design, execution, institutional response, action planning, and ongoing follow-up for the campus climate survey. Provide thought-leadership and best practices to the cross-university working team which includes Institutional Research, VP of DBSA , and other university stakeholders.4. Special Initiatives Oversight: Provide coordination and leadership for university-wide initiatives under the DBSA portfolio. Current initiatives include the Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), the Arnold L. Mitchem Dissertation Fellowship, Hispanic initiatives and partnerships, and intergroup dialogue programming. Collaborate across campus to ensure these initiatives are inclusive, resourced, and strategically aligned. Serve as a key institutional leader in advancing strategic initiatives that promote the recruitment, retention and success of underrepresented students, faculty and staff.5. Collaboration and Campus Engagement: Represent the DBSA on university committees and working groups on and off campus. Consult with academic and administrative units to build capacity for inclusion, organizational learning, and mission-driven leadership. Partner with university leaders to advance institutional priorities related to culture and climate. Engage with local, regional and national organizations that promote belonging and student success. Serve as a resource and advisor to campus units regarding inclusion and belonging practices, equity-minded hiring strategies and inclusive leadership.6. Assessment and Reporting: Develop and implement tools to evaluate the effectiveness of learning initiatives and strategic programs. Analyze data to inform planning and communicate impact to stakeholders. Contribute to divisional and university-wide assessment efforts.7. Supervision and Operations: Responsible for the supervision of graduate assistants and student employees which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student's assignment, etc. Assist with annual planning and resource allocation for assigned programs and initiatives. Formulate fundraising strategies for initiatives to include grant writing and partnering with University Advancement. Contribute to the overall functioning and success of the DBSA .8. Division & Campus Contributions: Serve as a key partner in the Division of Belonging and Student Affairs. Contribute to divisional strategic planning, student retention initiatives, and campus-wide efforts to support inclusion and belonging. Serve on university committees and as a conduct administrator, as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, organizational leadership, diversity/equity studies or a related field.Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, student affairs, organizational development or related nonprofit leadership.Deep understanding and commitment to addressing the challenges faced by college students, staff and/or faculty of diverse perspectives, life experiences, and backgrounds.Strong appreciation for and experience with the diverse needs of all members of the campus student community and surrounding city.Demonstrated success in strategic planning, program development, implementation, and assessment, including data-informed decision-making.Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate conversations across diverse audiences including students, campus partners, and senior leadership.Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments, colleges, alumni, and with external partners to cultivate excellence in program operations and impact.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience using assessment and data tools (e.g., Qualtrics, CMS , Power BI) for program evaluation and improvement.Knowledge of student development theories and best practices in the field of student success, belonging, leadership, and social justice.Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and guide staff.Fluency in both English and Spanish.
