Job Description :

The Mountain Sky Conference of The United Methodist Church is seeking a Director of Young People's Ministries to lead and advocate for dynamic, inclusive ministries with and for young people in the Mountain Sky Conference. This role focuses on faith formation, spiritual growth, leadership development, and contextual relevance, empowering young people within congregations and communities. Key responsibilities include resourcing, coordinating, and implementing youth ministry initiatives, as well as overseeing the Conference's Safe Sanctuaries Program. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, strategic leadership, and a passion for equipping young people, fostering diverse ministries, and advancing the Church's mission through impactful programming.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee, coordinate and implement the Safe Sanctuary program for the Mountain Sky conference.
  • Develop transformational ministries with young people (ages 12-30) by setting a vision for new ministries, evaluating and revitalizing existing ministries, and creating resources.
  • Support the recruitment and work of regional Young People's Ministry Developers to carry out the vision.
  • Develop and implement a holistic training program that empowers adults who work with youth to provide excellent local church leadership, consistent with United Methodist theology and structure.
  • Assess existing events for young people and provide leadership for aligning these events with Conference priorities of leadership development, faith formation, spiritual growth, and congregational vitality.
  • Empower multiple ministry groups and committees through the Conference to expand their understanding and opportunities to engage young people.
  • Create new and expand existing opportunities for young people to grow their leadership and advocacy within the Conference.
  • Support church leaders and conference leaders in creating new and strengthening existing ministry opportunities for the congregations in the Conference to engage young people in their communities.
  • Develop and manage a process for recruiting young people for leadership teams and active participation in the Mountain Sky Conference.
  • Ensure the integration of Conference values of inclusion and safety in all ministries and resources.
  • Communicate and publicize information in conjunction with the Conference Communications Team regarding Young People's Ministry to appropriate audiences in a timely and appropriate fashion.
  • Provide staff support to Conference Youth Council.
  • Organize and oversee childcare for conference level events (e.g., Annual Conference and Clergy Orders).
  • Connect with denominational opportunities for young people.
  • Collaborate actively with the Director of Camping and Campus Ministries.
  • Maintain databases that pertain to youth.
  • Participate in Leadership Development and MSC staff team meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Organizing, religious, or theological studies is a plus.
  • Minimum two years' experience developing, leading, and/or creating resources for ministries relevant to this position is required. Three years of professional experience in youth or young adult ministries preferred.
  • Experience fostering or supporting a church culture that values diversity in all its forms.
  • Previous experience in leadership and management of program redevelopment. Budget management experience is helpful.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with youth and young adults.
  • Knowledge of and experience with retreat and event ministries, ideally from a level of planning or management.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, coach, and resource other leaders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience using design and/or video editing software is helpful.
  • Fluency in popular social media platforms is a must. Basic knowledge of HTML and web development a plus.
  • Must maintain a strict level of confidentiality.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to multitask, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn The United Methodist Church and the Mountain Sky Conference structure, theology, polity and mission.
Additional Considerations:
  • $28.00 – $32.00 per hour.
