Job Summary The Director of Volunteer Engagement will oversee the strategic planning, organization, and management of the volunteer program, creating a supportive and collaborative environment where individuals can explore and develop their faith, nurture their gifts, and serve others. This position emphasizes enhancing current structures, encouraging new growth, and establishing a sustainable volunteer framework for the future. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader who motivates community participation, enhances volunteer satisfaction, and ensures meaningful contributions that support Wooddale's commitment to making a positive difference in our community and leaving a lasting impact in the world. In your role as Director of Volunteer Engagement, you will play a crucial part in fostering and promoting a vibrant volunteer culture that enables individuals to apply their gifts and talents in service to others. Essential Functions1. Enhancing Current Structures
  • Evaluate and enhance current volunteer engagement strategies to ensure efficiency and effectiveness and include opportunities for all Wooddale members and attendees.
  • Redefine recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention processes to streamline volunteer participation and enhance overall effectiveness.
  • Implement feedback mechanisms to assess volunteer satisfaction and areas for improvement.
  • Standardize policies, procedures, and communication strategies to create clarity and consistency.
  • Strengthen internal collaboration between staff and volunteers to optimize teamwork and impact. Enhance communication channels within Wooddale.
  • Implement new technologies and processes to optimize operations and conduct regular audits to ensure compliance and quality.
2. Encouraging New Growth
  • Develop innovative outreach strategies to attract new volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Develop training programs to enhance skills, knowledge, and discipleship within volunteer teams
  • Establish partnerships with community organizations, schools, businesses, and other stakeholders to expand volunteer engagement.
  • Identify which groups at Wooddale are underrepresented in volunteering and develop strategies to engage them in volunteering.
  • Implement digital tools and platforms to enhance accessibility, communication, and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to increase visibility of volunteer opportunities.
  • Identify and nurture talent within the volunteer teams.
  • Align and optimize volunteer pipelines to ensure consistency across every ministry area within Wooddale.
  • Oversee the recurring compliance around volunteer background checks and Wooddale's Affirmation Statement.
3. Building for the Future & Sustainability
  • Design long-term volunteer engagement strategies that align with Wooddale's mission and future goals.
  • Develop leadership opportunities within the volunteer program, encouraging participation in decision-making and mentorship roles.
  • Invest in sustainable practices and technologies.
  • Create metrics and impact assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of volunteer programs over time.
  • Provide training and support for staff and volunteers to maintain engagement and motivation and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, human resources, public relations, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in volunteer coordination, program management, or community engagement.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse groups across generations.
  • Proficiency in digital tools, volunteer management software, and social media outreach.
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on sustainability and long-term growth.
  • Subscribe to and affirm the Statement of Faith and Covenant of Wooddale Church.
  • Must become or remain a member in good standing of Wooddale Church.
  • Be a regular participant in public worship at Wooddale Church.

  • Salary Range: $60,000 to $75,000 annually, depending upon qualifications and experience
Work Environment/Physical Demands This job primarily operates in an office setting and involves the use of standard office equipment. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear and frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
