We are seeking a highly experienced Title Leader to serve as the company's final authority on all title matters. This role will make judgment calls on title interpretation, resolve complex title issues, and ensure the legal and factual accuracy of all title deliverables before they reach our clients. The ideal candidate is a seasoned oil & gas title attorney or senior title landman with extensive multi-jurisdictional experience, strong leadership skills, and the confidence to stand behind critical title decisions. This person must have a solid foundation in mineral title, working interest title, HBP & depth severed title, federal, state, and Indian restrictions, and other regulatory implications, along with excellent curative direction. This is a management heavy role that involves direct management of title attorneys, landman staff, and client relationships, as well as a dedicated business development element.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the ultimate decision-maker for all title interpretation questions within the company
- Review and approve all high-stakes title deliverables, including drilling, division order, and acquisition title opinions
- Sign off on the soundness and defensibility of all title deliverables before client submission
- Advise executive leadership and project managers on risk assessment and strategy related to title matters
- Develop and maintain company-wide title standards, best practices, and QA/QC processes
- Mentor and provide ongoing guidance to staff attorneys and landmen
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex curative issues, collaborating with outside counsel and regulatory agencies when needed
- Oversee compliance with state, federal, and tribal title, and recording requirements
- Provide training on evolving title law, case rulings, and jurisdictional nuances
- Receive, catalog, and track all work orders from clients
- Determine scope and estimate time/cost to complete individual projects/work orders/assignments
- Manage the prioritization, queue, assignment, & prosecution of work orders
- Train staff attorneys and title landmen in processes and forms
- Ongoing mentor support to staff attorneys and landmen
- Improve upon staff efficiencies and project turnaround time
- Render and assist in the preparation of oil & gas drilling and division order title opinions
Qualifications
- 10+ years title experience in multiple basins and states
- Strong legal and operational knowledge of mineral, leasehold, and working interest title
- Experience overseeing title operations in both acquisition and development settings
- Familiarity with Fee, State, Federal, Tribal, and other title frameworks
- Proven record of making sound judgment calls on complex title issues
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Leadership experience managing title teams or large-scale title projects
- Ability to work efficiently under deadlines and prioritize competing demands
- J.D. with admission to practice in Oklahoma & Texas preferred
- Landman background preferred
- Both In-house E&P and broker experience preferred at the management level
- Excellent verbal and written business communication skills are essential
- Advanced Word and Excel skills are essential
- Must have excellent time management skills and a dedicated work ethic.
