General Manager / HCC Executive Committee

Position Concept:

The Director of Tennis is a dynamic and experienced leader responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and success of HCC's racquet sports program. This includes program development, staff management, member engagement, and oversight of tennis facilities and operations. The ideal candidate is a passionate and energetic professional who can inspire both recreational and competitive players while ensuring exceptional service and programming.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development & Management

· Design and implement a comprehensive, year-round tennis program for all ages and skill levels (juniors, adults, beginners (NTRP 1.5) to advanced (NTRP 4.5 and higher).

  • Organize clinics, private lessons, social mixers, leagues, interclub matches, and club championships.
  • Develop and grow junior tennis programming, including camps and after-school programs.

Staff Supervision & Training

  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage a team of tennis professionals, assistants, and seasonal staff.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and development opportunities to ensure high service standards.
  • Schedule staff effectively to meet programming and instructional needs.

Member Relations & Engagement

  • Maintain strong relationships with members, fostering a welcoming and inclusive tennis culture.
  • Be visible and approachable on the courts and during events.
  • Handle member feedback and concerns professionally and proactively.

Operational Oversight

  • Manage the tennis budget, including payroll, equipment, and event expenses.
  • Oversee maintenance and condition of all tennis and pickleball courts and related facilities.
  • Coordinate with grounds and maintenance teams to ensure optimal playing conditions.
  • Collaborate with Pro Shop team to manage inventory, equipment sales, and merchandise.

Events & Tournaments

  • Plan and execute a robust calendar of events including tournaments, charity events, exhibitions, and themed socials.
  • Partner with other departments (food & beverage, marketing) to deliver seamless event experiences.

Administration

  • Maintain accurate lesson records, court usage data, and staff schedules.
  • Provide regular reports to the General Manager and Tennis Committee.
  • Stay current with industry trends and certifications.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in tennis instruction and program management at a private club or similar setting.
  • USPTA or PTR certified (Elite Professional or equivalent preferred).
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Passion for player development at all levels.
  • Demonstrated success in team building and member engagement.
  • Proficiency in tennis software and applications for scheduling and communication.
  • CPR and First Aid certified (or willingness to obtain).
