Job Title: Director, Student Accounts Full/Part Time: Full-Time FLSA Classification: Exempt Campus: University Center Reports To: Controller's Office Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities: The Director of Student Accounts directs and manages the centralized operation of the Student Financial Services department and oversees and enforces internal financial controls over all student transactional systems. The Director works closely with colleagues at the University Center Finance team as well as Enrollment Services, Financial Aid and other offices on campus to ensure policies, procedures, and protocols relating to student accounting, including financial aid postings, are administered in an efficient and effective manner. Principal Responsibilities: • Provide daily oversight and coordination of student accounts receivable across the University's main and regional campuses; manage all billing and tuition timelines; facilitate communications with students, families, staff and third-party agencies; direct all aspects relating to student accounts receivables, including the PeopleSoft Student Financials and Financial Aid modules, TransAct and RMS. • Process university wire payments to assure proper crediting to student Department accounts. • Review, approve, and submit uncollectable accounts to outside collection agencies; ensure effective management and oversight of third parties handling tuition accounts in arrears. • Oversee and ensure student refunds are accurate and timely and in accordance with government regulations; ensure cashiering, student and third-party billing, TAP certification, 1098T reporting, student account reconciliations, and tuition remission processing are completed in a timely and accurate manner. • Develop and communicate key reports to analyze and understand trends in tuition and fee revenue, student accounts receivable, loans receivable, and bad debt expense; implement strategies to help reduce delinquencies and maximize collections. • Direct centralized financial aid activities, including, but not limited to, Federal Title IV financial aid processing, including Authorization and Disbursement of Federal, State and University financial Aid; New York State TAP certification and processing; third party loan servicing; Federal, State, and private lender drawdowns; and any external reporting requirements. • Manage the University's Perkins, Health Professions, and institutional loan programs; develop and implement effective borrower communications, including loan entrance and exit counseling, to minimize default rates; manage file transfers with the University's third party loan servicer and resolve all reconciling items; manage the team's response to phone inquiries and emails relating to loan accounts. • Work closely with campus, Information Technology, and University Center personnel to optimize functionality within the University's Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Student Financials and Financial Aid modules; work in collaboration with campus personnel, to create, update, and send timely communications to students and families. • Develop student financials analyses and reports using data mining tools within Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions to provide data in response to all reporting requirements, surveys, and requests for scholarship and financial aid data. • Supervise the Student Finance team. • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned or directed. Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred; 10+ years student financials and supervisory experience required. Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience: Detailed knowledge of accounting, auditing, and budgeting required. Knowledge of Federal and New York State laws relating to higher education financial management required; intimate knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Student Financials and Financial Aid module experience preferred; excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills; ability to manage staff; ability to work collaboratively with other members of the University community; working knowledge of MS Windows and Office Suites.
