The Director of Privacy and Senior Legal Counsel serves as the Privacy Officer, primarily responsible for advising the US Coverys insurance and non-insurance companies to ensure compliance with privacy laws and regulations. This role involves serving as the in-house expert on privacy laws, regulations, and principles, as well as developing and implementing US privacy programs, policies, and protocols with support from other departments.

Additionally, the Director provides a broad range of legal services, focusing on contract drafting, review, negotiation, corporate transactions (mergers, acquisitions, investments), employment matters, and litigation issues.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Company's Privacy Program, including policies and procedures aligned with applicable laws and industry best practices.
  • Oversee privacy training for employees and Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on privacy initiatives.
  • Monitor and communicate updates in privacy laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Lead investigations of privacy breaches and violations.
  • Manage responses to third-party privacy breaches and individual rights requests.
  • Provide legal advice on corporate matters, including contracts, policies, employment, and transactions related to privacy.
  • Manage responses to subpoenas, investigations, litigation, and coordinate with outside counsel.
  • Research legal developments to advise on industry trends and implications.
  • Partner with the business on legal and privacy issues, including product development and regulatory filings.
  • Travel as needed for conferences, industry events, and office visits.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
    • Qualifications & Competencies
    • J.D. and admission to at least one state bar, with 7-10 years of experience.
    • Preferred experience in law firms and in-house legal departments.
    • Expertise in U.S. privacy and data laws; CIPP/US certification and familiarity with GDPR are pluses.
    • Broad knowledge of corporate legal matters, with prior insurance industry experience required.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple deadlines.
    • Ability to quickly learn new subjects and independently manage projects.
    • Excellent communication skills and sound business judgment.

    Annual base salary ranges from $143,800 to $194,600. Compensation varies based on location, experience, skills, and qualifications.
