If you are interested please apply online and send your resume to [email protected] POSITION SUMMARY The Director, Media Relations and Communications, supports the critical needs and growth of the hospital and health system through strategic direction in media, digital and executive communications. The Director supports the CEO and Vice President of Government and Community Relations regionally, statewide and nationally with targeted messaging and media placement relevant to MLKCH emerging priorities. The Director manages all media, develops content for placement, and establishes strategies to position MLKCH as a thought leader in ways that will influence policy and engage lawmakers, donors and community leaders. The Director reports to the Chief Communications Officer and works closely with the CEO and Vice President of Government and Community relations to create content, develop creative strategies and drive media and speaking engagements that ensure the success of MLK Community Healthcare. Key characteristics of the Director include media experience, conceptual and strategic skills, initiative, creative problem-solving and results in challenging environments. The Director has experience in messaging, brand and digital realms, as well as expertise in, and understanding of, healthcare and healthcare policy. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Specific responsibilities of the Director include executive communications, national market media and system-wide message development. Areas of responsibility:

  • Media: Serve as key contact and strategist for media deployment in service of MLKCH priorities. Lead messaging, positioning, and overall narrative to tell a persuasive story. Continue to evolve the MLKCH unique mission and model with key influencers, including media outlets, legislative leaders, partners, funders and others.
  • Executive Communications.: Strategic lead for the continued growth of executive communications as an anchor for MLKCH as a thought leader for policy and influence. Identify and secure state and national opportunities through earned media, speaking engagements and industry publications that further the strategic policy and resource goals of the organization.
  • Creative: Contribute creative problem-solving to emerging priorities; advise on creative deployment of tools in support of all areas of responsibility.
  • Advocacy: Advance leadership communications on organizational objectives through strong policy and campaign-building skills and understanding.
POSITION REQUIREMENTSA. Education
  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
B. Qualifications/Experience
  • Minimum seven years of experience in Media, Communications, Public Relations or Strategic Communications, preferably within a healthcare setting.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, messaging and content production segmented by audience/objective/type.
  • Exceptional strategic and conceptual thinking, an ability to see the big picture as well as the small detail, in order to drive high-quality and integrated results.
  • Proven successful experience designing, implementing and evaluating communications strategies with clear goals, objectives and measures of success.
  • Five years or more experience and demonstrated success in media relations, public relations and reputation management, including crisis communications.
  • Experience using market intelligence and audience research to inform and evaluate strategy.
  • Ability to facilitate the creative direction and development of multimedia products including video, animation, digital and social media, including knowledge of current trends and best practices.
  • Demonstrated track record with the media and in promoting campaigns and initiatives effectively.
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
  • Hospital and/or health system experience.
  • Experience in health policy, data analytics and evidence-based approaches that inform and drive results.
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, underserved communities.
