Job Title: Director of Materials

Location: Rincon, GA Plant (Onsite Only – Relocation Provided)

Position Summary:

Virginia Transformer Corp is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Materials to lead all purchasing, inventory control, and materials planning functions at our Rincon, GA facility. This role is responsible for ensuring timely, cost-effective procurement and material flow in alignment with company production schedules and strategic goals. The Director will oversee end-to-end materials management, drive supply chain efficiencies, and ensure alignment with operational and financial targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all purchasing, inventory control, and materials planning activities.
  • Ensure timely procurement of materials in accordance with corporate policies and production requirements.
  • Oversee warehouse operations to ensure accurate material accounting and effective storage practices.
  • Drive plant performance metrics related to inventory levels, freight costs, material delays, and supply chain disruptions.
  • Ensure consistent adherence to established processes including Hot Lists, EPPM, short reports, and kitting per SOPs.
  • Communicate proactively with leadership regarding material issues that may impact production or business operations.
  • Develop and maintain the plant's Master Schedule and support all manufacturing planning activities.
  • Monitor internal and external cost drivers to provide visibility into market trends and cost changes.
  • Maintain accurate vendor records and historical pricing data to support cost analysis and sourcing decisions.
  • Develop and enforce procurement standards to ensure cost containment and supply chain efficiency.
  • Optimize inventory levels based on production needs and company objectives; monitor usage and adjust plans as necessary.
  • Coordinate quality inspections of incoming materials; address nonconformance issues with vendors.
  • Manage perpetual inventory system for all raw materials, components, and consumables.
  • Review BOMs and slow-moving inventory to maximize usage and reduce waste.
  • Advise leadership on cost changes and recommend updates to min/max settings and MRP parameters at least every 6 months.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing materials team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and planning capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of product life cycles, manufacturing cycles, and market trends.
  • Proficiency in inventory and ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant inventory management tools.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of materials or procurement management experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience with strategic sourcing, supplier management, and production planning.
  • Certification in Materials Management (e.g., APICS CPIM or CSCP) preferred.
