Job Title: Director of Maintenance

Position Summary: The Director of Maintenance is responsible for managing and directing the Maintenance Department. Duties include supervising maintenance staff and overseeing daily operations of the facilities.

The Director collaborates with all departments at The Children's Center of Hamden and regularly interacts with vendors and contractors. They make decisions regarding daily department functions and seek approval for major operational changes and expenditures. The individual should be culturally sensitive to the client population. The Director reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Position Status: Exempt

Technologies: ADP (Timecard and Training System)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of facilities including maintenance, custodial, and security services.
  • Oversee hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations of maintenance staff.
  • Manage union staff according to collective bargaining agreements.
  • Inspect facilities daily to ensure standards are met for safety, comfort, and efficiency.
  • Maintain the agency's work order system effectively.
  • Develop relationships with outside contractors for maintenance and service contracts.
  • Manage budgets, forecast expenses, and ensure cost-effective vendor services.
  • Prepare monthly reports for leadership.
  • Oversee grounds maintenance, lawn care, and snow removal.
  • Develop policies to maintain a safe environment for youth and families.
  • Conduct safety and security checks regularly and attend safety meetings.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are secure and accessible only to authorized personnel.
  • Maintain mandatory training and adhere to organizational policies and ethics.
  • Promote agency policies by identifying and raising awareness of inequities and biases, and interacting respectfully.
  • Report safety hazards to ensure the safety and welfare of children.

Minimum Qualifications: Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills; knowledge of maintenance trades; ability to supervise staff effectively.

Licensure/Certifications: High School or Trade School Diploma

Physical Requirements/Work Environment: Ability to perform light to heavy lifting, standing, sitting, climbing, and other physical activities; work may involve exposure to waste, bodily fluids, and irritants.
