The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for the Director of Maintenance for the Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS). GMS is a residential school responsible for providing educational instruction to visually impaired students in grades K-12 from across North Carolina. The primary purpose of this position is to provide a comprehensive student life program to students ages 5-22 who are blind or visually impaired.
This position oversees all functional maintenance services and supports of the GMS campus, which includes 25 buildings and over 40 acres of land. The Maintenance/Construction Manager II manages a team of approximately 8 service vehicles and staff including licensed construction workers, warehouse workers, housekeepers, electricians, boiler operators, painters, groundskeepers, and carpentry professionals. Responsibilities include managing the capital improvement program, providing programming, budget requests, project management, architectural and engineering design, and construction administration services, as well as managing leased property needs.
The role involves supervising 16 maintenance workers through direct supervision of a maintenance/ground supervisor and a housekeeping supervisor, reporting directly to the GMS Superintendent. The position requires working independently with minimal supervision.
