We do this by having higher standards, sourcing locally and sustainably, and caring more for the people and communities we serve.The RoleThe Director of Maintenance at FreshDirect is responsible for overseeing all aspects of maintenance operations to ensure optimal functionality and safety of the facility. This includes comprehensive oversight of our Building Management System, HVAC systems, Cascade 507 and CO2 refrigeration systems, pneumatic systems, high-pressure steam boilers, high-tension electrical systems, plumbing, and general carpentry. The role focuses on ensuring maximum uptime, reliability, and performance of all physical assets in alignment with the company's productivity, safety, and cost-efficiency goals.What You'll Do

• Lead and manage the total plant maintenance program using best practices in preventive and predictive maintenance, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
• Provide strategic oversight and technical guidance across major facility systems, including:
• Industrial HVAC and climate control systems
• Cascade 507 and CO2 refrigeration systems
• Pneumatics and compressed air systems
• High-pressure boilers and steam infrastructure
• High-tension electrical systems and critical power distribution
• Facility-wide plumbing, fixtures, and water systems
• General carpentry and facility structural maintenance
• Fire Alarm Control Panel and Sprinklers
• Monitor and maintain inventory levels of critical spare parts and consumables, ensuring timely reordering and optimal stock levels.
• Oversee the implementation and ongoing use of the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for accurate tracking of work orders, equipment history, and maintenance metrics.
• Analyze maintenance trends, generate operational reports, and recommend improvements to reduce downtime and improve asset lifecycle performance.
• Direct and develop a high-performing maintenance team, ensuring technicians are well-trained, well-equipped, and operating safely and efficiently.
• Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, conducting performance evaluations and technical training programs.
• Maintain up-to-date maintenance SOPs, safety protocols, and compliance standards.
• Act as the primary liaison for coordinating maintenance activities with operations, engineering, safety, and quality assurance departments.
• Lead departmental safety initiatives, ensuring full compliance with OSHA standards and company safety programs.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's Degree in related discipline and/or demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities through previous work experience and education
• Five plus (5+) years experience of maintenance labor
• Five (5) years of leadership in a maintenance environment
• Bilingual, in English and Spanish.

• The expected compensation for this role is $135,824-159,793 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be discussed during the interview process.
