Director of Maintenance - Clarke County : Job Details

Clarke County and Clarke County Public Schools, Virginia are accepting applications for a full-time Director of Maintenance/Public Works. Reporting to the County Administrator and School Superintendent, this position manages the day-to-day operations of the joint maintenance department serving both county government and the school system. The expected salary range for this position is $77,000-$95,000. The current Director will retire on August 31, 2025.

The Director supervises six full-time employees and several part-time employees. The department, through its employees and contractors, maintains two elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, government/school office buildings, courthouses, and various other structures owned by the county and schools. The Director oversees all construction projects, develops an annual operating budget, assists in the development of a capital improvements plan, and manages a fleet of county vehicles. In addition, the position oversees the Convenience Center located on Quarry Road (the County uses a regional landfill). The Director will serve as an advisor to the Clarke County Sanitary Authority, which operates a small water and sewer system in a small portion of the County (the operation of the water and sewer plants are managed by a contracted vendor). Extensive knowledge of building and grounds practices, construction methods, fleet management, water and sewer systems, and ability to work in a public setting with a wide range of stakeholders are required.
