LiquidPiston is seeking a visionary and technically deep Director of AI / Machine Learning to lead the integration of AI and data science into the next generation of engine and propulsion systems.

About the Role
- Define and lead LiquidPiston's AI/ML roadmap
- Integrate machine learning into simulation, design, and performance optimization of mechanical systems
- Build and deploy physical + data-driven models to support engines, generators, UAVs, and hybrid power platforms
- Analyze simulation and real-world test data to uncover engineering insights and drive innovation
- Set up scalable computing infrastructure (e.g., GPU clusters, containers)
- Collaborate directly with the CEO and cross-functional engineering teams
- Oversee external research and technical partnerships

- Python, R, MATLAB
- LLM development, training and deployment
- High-performance computing / GPU clusters
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Data Science, Physics, Engineering, or related technical field
- 7+ years of experience applying AI/ML to physical systems
- Strong foundation in thermodynamics, numerical methods, and optimization
- Proven track record building and deploying LLMs (including infrastructure setup and real-world applications)
- Excellent coding and data analysis skills (Python, Jupyter, etc.)
- Strong communication and project leadership skills
Bonus Skills
- Familiarity with propulsion systems, rotary engines, or energy tech
- Experience with simulation tools like SolidWorks, ANSYS, GT Suite
- Experience with big data platforms (AWS, Azure, Snowflake)
